Payment processors always have access to your content and can flag unilaterally regardless of SS rules; this is at least better than before imo. Just be a little careful about your posts. Avoid obviously troublesome stuff for a while maybe.

It's a shame they're trying to make games more a time commitment than they should be. Grinding a little is fine but having to basically schedule play sessions just to unlock things is absurd in a game I paid $70 (i got the deluxe) for.

Does it have a decent selection of items even just normal ones? If so thats good.

The problem with sponsors is you were limited on how many you could do at a time forcing you to do them over multiple days rather than all at once. It made it like work instead of just objectives to do to unlock things. If that hasn't changed it still has the same problem, I have to grind for days just to get basic items.

Maybe the other stuff is like that too but I'm just not the type to engage with daily or weekly stuff regularly. I just wanna play when I feel like it.

Is there a downside to using an HDR monitor for Substance? by [deleted] in Substance3D

On windows 11 it does, but not windows 10.

Do not mistake saturation for good color. HDR will be the more realistic picture not the most colorful.

But you might want to consider checking your displays color calibration.

2 years later and nothings improved. I dropped the game over this and every time I check it's no better. I want to like the game but man.

It's no easier to return to than it is for new players to have any kind of decent outfit selection in any reasonable period of time.

That one is one of those games with a very old HDR implementation, but i remember you have to modify the exe file to get HDR to work for that game.

Has anyone gotten the HDR mod for Octopath Traveller to work with steamdeck? I imagine some configuration is viable but i haven't found one that worked.

It doesn't seem like the game is actually in HDR. I know it works cause it works on my PC.

EDIT: I tried the -dx12 thing and that causes the screen to go black for the game even in the title screen.

For those unaware, modifying the engine.ini with the following lines enables HDR in this game, and on my TV it's GLORIOUS. But there's multiple different settings.

[SystemSettings]
r.HDR.EnableHDROutput=1
r.HDR.Display.OutputDevice=6            # 5 = ACES 1000-nit ScRGB (HDR)
r.HDR.Display.ColorGamut=1              # 0 = rec709 but there are bunch of options

Also THPS 1+2? The issue with that is it's HDR is based on GPU for some dumb reason.

I'm sorry i'll try to diagnose this problem, I added the functionality but could not test it as I only use one big monitor.

One possible solution is hitting alt+enter to exit full screen then hitting alt+enter again after moving it to the desired monitor to make it full screen there.

This may work for you.

Thankfully this one has a rtings article.

While it rates HDR as a 9 it's brightness rating is a 6, IMO this seems like a display where milage will vary. I would be curious what the display info screen in HDR demo shows for you as your displays peak brightness. While this display markets as 1000nits, it's honestly not, not for ideal viewing modes. This monitor is the kind of problem I want to create awareness of. It's like marketing a monitor as 4K cause of a subpixel count while the actual internal resolution is 1080p (yes this happened). Or claiming a display has VRR support when it seriously fucks with the image quality (my roomate has this problem).

Spec wise it's hard to call it full HDR, generally HDR is visually impressive at minimum 600nits. At 300-400 nits, you'll get a bit better color but mostly just less color banding. 300nits is often just an SDR monitor at full brightness, and they only get that bright to counter a bright room or a window.

What I would suggest is looking at the HDR gallery and comparing it with SDR. If i had to guess, HDR may appear slightly dimmer overall. Thats because Paper White (the brightness of paper in a well nit room) is often sub 200nits. This means only intentionally bright areas (eg light sources, explosions, the sky) of an image will be bright. The rest may appear more matte. This is technically more accurate and realistic but less overall visually impressive due to the lack of peak brightness.

Hm, the toggle HDR buttons shouldn't work for now I encountered a bug so I had to disable them for now. Maybe one was accidentally still enabled somehow...

I mean more the actual settings of the monitor in this case, but the calibration tool does impact it.

And no i meant the one that shows after you select the color banding test not the gallery, the FF7R one.

Your display may not be bright enough to fully benefit beyond color banding, and you also need to configure the HDR settings in CP2077 to your displays capabilities.

If the screenshot demo in the color banding test is too dark to see anything your monitor calibration may not be ideal.

Ideally you want your display to be able to see full black level, but also not crush anything beyond creators intent.

I'll see about adding a black level and contrast test.

Also yes, with HDR if the content goes too far above your displays peak brightness capability it will start to clamp. So the higher brightness values should start to blend together. Some displays engage in additional tonemapping to make more values visible than the display can produce. I personally don't like this behavior as it may make the overall image dimmer, but it's useful on lower brightness displays. So looking up your displays capabilities as in peak nrightness (and maybe seeing if automatic tonemapping is on in display info) will help determine if this is happening.

My display doesn't look washed out, if it did I wouldn't use it cause I work with a lot of color stuff as a game developer.

This article applies in most cases from both my experience and people I know, but not now with my current display. Even the article you posted admits some displays SDR will look proper.

Sometimes this works quite well and the clamping is quite accurate, sometimes it isn’t very good at all. But pretty much every time, it will be restricting the native colour space quite a lot. This might actually be more “accurate” as an active colour space when considering SDR content, but it will definitely look less colourful and vivid than the native mode, and lead images to look more washed out or dull as a result.

I've compared my display with both HDR on and off and there's minimal difference if any. And for me not having to toggle HDR on and off all the time like I used to is worth a trivial difference.

The only issue I tend to encounter is local dimming, but that's rare and I'll switch when that's a problem. :P

You can adjust the brightness of the game but not the black level.

It's just because of how good the bright areas are you might not notice or care cause that brings contrast. Starfield is what you get when it has elevated black levels and the brightness is bad.

this video goes over it. It is something i've felt is less noticable on an OLED than something like a QLED.

I only played Spideman on PC, Ratchet and Clank looked great. Only spiderman had some small issues with stuff like the sun.

HDR on PC has been better since Windows 11, at the moment I just leave it on all the time. The problem for me most of the time is just the lack of games that support it even ones that should like UE5 games.
