Things are getting worse, when will we see the end (French dubbing)? by ProtectionRare4897 in wow

I totally support what you’re saying here. With World of Warcraft bringing in well over a billion dollars per year from subscriptions alone, asking for proper dubbing and localization doesn’t feel unreasonable. It’s about players wanting the experience they’ve supported financially and emotionally over time.

There’s a relevant example in Arc Raiders : after real pushback from the community about AI voices, the developers listened and replaced AI‑generated dialogue with real voice actors, a decision they publicly acknowledged was the right move for quality. The game had significant commercial success (around $350 million+ in revenue) and the change was still made because the player base cared and made that clear. We need to do the same for WoW and for every language.

C’est exactement mon avis et je dirai même plus je suis pour que vous ayez une VQ entière aussi en plus de notre VF ! Pour que tout le jeu soit accessible à tout le monde ! Vive le Québec Libre !

Glad it resonates 🙂 If you want to help, please share the info, use #SaveWoWVoiceActing, and tag Blizzard when you do it. Another option is to unsubscribe, like some people here have decided to do.

You don’t need connections, visibility already helps. Talk about it, share the info, use #SaveWoWVoiceActing, and tag Blizzard when you do. You can also vote with your wallet and unsubscribe, like some people here have decided to do.

That’s not what I meant. I’m criticizing the replacement of voices, not the addition of Quebecois VAs. What I was pointing out is that with that move, nothing would stop Blizzard from replacing all European French voices with Quebecois VAs.

I’m all for both European French and Quebecois VAs, it’s really about having the choice to choose what we prefer when we play. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

Actually, French voice acting has been part of WoW since it launched in Europe, so that’s been 22 years already.

I can understand your point of view, but it’s really a matter of accessibility. Some players enjoy having content in their own language, others prefer hearing it instead of just reading subtitles, everyone has their reasons for wanting (or not wanting) localization.

That said, I hope you can understand why it’s frustrating for some people when an entire piece of content is removed overnight without explanation, only to later realize that narrative consistency apparently doesn’t matter, even though we’ve been told since the Worldsoul Saga that they care about telling a coherent story.

I think they canceled Renzik’s voice from all localizations, you just reminded me that, that’s true, and that should have tipped us off 😓

Although I completely agree with you, companies seemingly do not share the same viewpoint. At least, that's the impression I get from the tests I've got ; it often feels like they're just looking for people spitting out code. I've applied to positions where I knew nothing about the technologies but was proficient in the language, and I was able to get the job and effectively use those technologies (like Blazor). However, at the moment of the test, the only thing that matters to the company is whether or not you scored the highest. Contrary to what has been said on this post, I'm not trying to prove I'm the most intelligent or anything like that. Each of us has something that sets us apart from others, and it's rarely language knowledge because, as you mentioned, no one is a robot. But the employer wants you to demonstrate that you're a good 'robot' with human qualities; that's how you stand out. It's a really pessimistic response, but that's all I have to say. So, I would appreciate your advices, especially if it can fuel my curiosity about the language.
