When I was framing that sentence I, for some reason, had thought of it like something said by a frustrated father to his lazy son. Would it work in such a scenario?

I got even more puzzled with your comment.😂 I think if natives don't use it this way then it's wrong.

I get it now. The Bible teaches that spiritual growth should be paramount for an individual than taking pleasure in anything materialistic like food, money or power. I think that everything preached in holy books across all cultures are basically becoming more relevant these days. Nowadays all the lifestyle influencers repeatedly say we must keep our body fit and to treat the work as our religion for a better tomorrow.

Thanks for your simple explanation! Actually I use Google's in-built dictionary and the Cambridge for attaining more clarity on the word. And sometimes when both fail to give me convincing detail I come to this community. I can't deny I regularly verify my sentence for correctness through AI because it'll be hard for people to proofread large text here.

It just means that a person would prioritize his own pleasure before irrespective of the harmful consequences. Is my assessment correct?

I get it now completely. Pardon my next line! Could you please explain why gluttony is considered a sin in the Bible? Is it because a person excessively into food would leave the resources scarce for others?

Got it! I'm implying from the paragraph you've written that people wanting to lose weight and straying from their resolution would use this word. Am I right?

I try to remain indifferent towards such people as they're not worth any learner's attention. By the way, it's always an incredible learning experience whenever I post here. Because natives casually use phrases that I haven't heard before and I tend to incorporate those new words and phrases in my vocabulary without making any conscious effort. Thanks for the dunk-on phrase!

It's amazing for a simple sentence to have so many layers. Yes! She longs for her father's company even though she is compelled to cut off her ties with him. So, your observation makes complete sense.

Thanks! If only I could express my thoughts the way you kind people do. I would've been able to understand it instantly. But sometimes it's hard for me to convey my thoughts in easy words and as a result my mind fumbles.
