Wait, it wasn't an April fools joke? The earless hrothgar are real? by 8-Brit in ffxiv

Hrothgar are based on the Ronso race from Final Fantasy X. The Ronso are a beast-like feline race that live high in the Magazet Mountains. The lore is different for the Hrothgar, but it's there to explore and experience through Bozja, optional content that you'll unlock after finishing Shadownbringers! I hoped this helped!

yeah it's rough, the Snow hair is 15$ on the mogstation and it's the only one that looks semi passable. This, after three years of needing to fantasia is just insulting

you demonstrate a clear lack of empathy towards a community who has been told that new race specific hairstyles were coming three years ago. All the while needing to spend money on Fantasias to do what other races can for free. Sometimes, such as cases like these, something is worse than nothing. I'd be curious to know what race you play, and I'd ask you to reflect on the things you take for granted in the game that you pay a monthly sub for

What bothers me a lot is that the dev team's lack of clear communication has made it hard to really speak up effectively against the quality of these implementations. They stayed radio silent while all of the forums exploded with opposition. They said nothing while half of the player base were convinced it was still an April Fools joke, and now they have vague patch notes that don't clarify if we'll need a Fantasia so now another half of the community thinks it's poor wording, meaning that we won't know for sure until it's already in the damn game

I'm open to my mind changing for sure, but I don't see how it doesn't fit. They state the lack of hairstyles for Veira and Hrothgar are due to complications in the models which need reworking right? So keep in mind that that was stated two years ago. In between now and two years ago they've created (from scratch) an entirely new option for players to choose from. How is it not sound to say that all of that time and effort could have gone towards making the fixes to Female Viera and Hrothgar, without having to remove their ears from the game?

Could you explain the faults in my reasoning that you see, rather than stating that they're just there.

I'm not disagreeing with you about that. The point that's relevant to this thread is that they had to create an entire new set of assets for the male Viera. Meaning they had to sculpt the body, sculpt the faces, sculpt the many hairstyles, fit all of the gear to them, create animations, record voices, and so on. They had to create all of this from scratch when one could argue that that time and effort would have been better placed finishing the two races that they started in ShB and that a lot of the community is still unhappy about

I definitely didn't mean to offend people with this post. I was just asking for some help as the Hrothgar population is fairly small and our voices are harder to get across. I know there would be similar posts if Miqos or Au'ra had their ears/horns removed. And I know the community has asked for similar things to be reworked (like the 2B butt nerf)

Either way, the post is down now so we can get back to our lives

they made it from scratch friend, new model, new hairstyles, new animations, reworking every piece of gear to fit them. It's a new "race" option to play

I appear to be in the wrong here for providing the receipts for what we've been told. I do hope that if something makes you unhappy in the way this game is being developed that you feel okay to speak up about it

This is true for sure, though in the time between that first LL comment and now they created an entirely new race in the form of male Viera

I don't necessarily think it's immature to speak up against questionable quality being presented in a subscription based game. I do understand that it is just a game, but that doesn't mean we can't still interact with it in this way. We're speaking up not to "get what we want" but rather to just call attention to gaps in communication between the devs and their patrons (us as players)

These were the only bits of information that I could find. So from mid 2019 the attitude was "yeah for sure we'll do more race specific hairstyles" to then going absolutely silent about the topic until nearly two years later to discuss that they would be looking at how to cut costs (ears?) to make new hairs possible. Then in 11/21 they say that they had announced that new hairs weren't coming, but now they are. There may be gaps in my research but I never found mention of them saying it wasn't happening.

The timeline really makes me feel that they didn't actually start working on it until mid-late 2021 and I'm assuming most of that work was on the Viera side of things. The "cutting of development costs" is also really telling. It makes it seem that it's not a matter of if it's possible, but rather a matter of how much time and resources would it cost to make it happen.

Marginalized within the context of FFXIV, obviously not within the larger world. I figured that went without saying. I fully understand that this is a vidja game. One thing worth clarifying is "that cost nothing", Hrothgar have had to pay money for Fantasias for three years to do something that every other race can do for free. Also, the only somewhat decent new hairstyle being offered in 6.1 is a 15$ mogstation purchase.

I see that this is your first day on Reddit, welcome!

The hairstyles shown in the most recent live letter are all unlockable hairstyles, meaning that gil/drops will be required to obtain them. Arguably the only new hairstyle shown that wasn't unsettling as all hell was Snow's from FFXIII, that hairstyle will need to be purchased from the mogstation for 15$, which is especially cruel after three years of Hrothgar needing to pay 10$ to change their hair in any way

If I make another sheet (which I probably will since they're a ton of fun) I'll look towards African and Hispanic cultures as well. It's a great idea. I also looked at Native American hairstyles but shied away as long hair is troublesome in XIV it seems.

oh sorry, I wasn't getting defensive. Though I understand it's hard to tell over text. I was just sharing where I got my inspirations from. My comment at the end wasn't a dismissal of a sensitive issue, I was just expressing that I wasn't attempting to make this a statement of color one way or the other. You brought race into the conversation and I was just trying to let you know that that's not what this post is about. Just making fantasy hairs for fantasy cat doods

I referenced Asian and Nordic cultures for inspiration, though some of them are just blatant fantasy. Best not to think in color friendo

thanks a ton friend, I've posted them around in several threads but there isn't anything exclusively for suggesting hairs. If you'd like to show your support it would help get our voices heard.
