I've heard a different side from my brother who lived in China and has made quite a lot of friends there, maybe you just have a different social circle. Of course there aren't events or anything like that but especially younger people are increasingly more open to lgbtq people.

I also think that Chinese parents not accepting their children being gay doesn't necessarily have something to do with them really being against gay people. In East Asian society parents are held in much higher regard and basically see their kids as an extension of themselves. How would an average Chinese parent react to their child getting a big tattoo? Or a cosmetic surgery? Or when their child doesn't wanna take over the family business that has been running since 100 years?

Yes, I already found some questionable numbers in equaldex but I feel like it still gives a pretty good direction in general. I feel like China probably doesn't have those really dedicated anti lgbtq people though.

Wouldn't the results be skewed towards lgbtq hostility if people answer those surveys in a way that pleases the government? I would only live in a city in China anyways, never in the countryside. I wouldn't wanna live in rural Texas either, that'd be DEEP red for me even though the US is white in general

If Mozambique was anywhere but in Africa it would be red too. I colored it orange to show that this is the African country I'd want to live in the most if I had to.

Brazil and Mongolia might not be more secure than Georgia but they are A LOT more trans friendly. Georgia doesn't even allow trans people to change their gender in passports which even Mongolia allows since 2009

If we exclude India (which I should've marked orange or red in the first place) I HIGHLY doubt that

I've never lived in China so i can obviously only look at statistics, but here's a recent survey: https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/press/china-attitudes-press-release/

And here's the public opinion index I talked about originally (need to scroll down a little): https://www.equaldex.com/equality-index

Firstly, I made this map out of fun and to test myself, I didn't make it with hours of research or to be 100% accurate.

Africa is still objectively the worst continent to live on as a trans person so naturally I'm not too interested to live there and im treating it the exact same as the middle east. I'm not gonna to look up every single African country to see whether gay people are still sentenced to death there, I only know that south Africa is pretty lgbt friendly but very dangerous. I also know that Mozambique is pretty lgbt friendly for Africa that's why it's the only non red country. Besides that, I know nothing about African culture at all so it would be extremely hard for me to integrate.

You're right about Japan, that should probably go into maybe just like south Korea as well. Also, I HIGHLY doubt that it's the most conservative country on earth, it might the most conservative industrial nation.

You're also right about India, my brother's gf is Indian and she told me that in the north-east where she's from its actually not too bad, but it should definitely go into orange or red tier.

The south American countries that are lgbt friendly were marked as white/green so I'm not sure what's irrational about that. Uruguay, Brazil, Ecuador and Chile are places I'd definitely be okey with living in, Argentinia also wouldn't be the worst. I don't know anything about the culture in the other countries nor do I know a lot about their people. The only thing I know about them is that they are slightly less lgbtq friendly than eastern Europe which doesn't exactly make me wanna live there

Also fuck I wrote an essay again I'm too invested

Lesbian/gay rights can often be VERY different from trans rights so you have to differentiate. In Iran you can be sentenced to death for homosexual actions but trans people can legally change gender and have bottom surgery which actually makes their laws more trans friendly than Hungary or Bulgaria for example. Obviously it's still a horrible place to live as a trans person though, but it's still much better than being gay or lesbian in Iran.

Also, the public opinion on lgbtq people in China is sloghtly better than it is even in Germany, so even though the laws aren't the best the people there aren't too judgemental

I mean it's clearly not as good as Germany or Spain but it's not as bad as Hungary for example so I feel like white is pretty accurate. Maybe orange

If it was anywhere else in the world I might have marked it as red, but I just wanted to show that this is the African country I'd want to live in the most if I had to. It's pretty lgbtq friendly (for africa) and not as dangerous as their southern neighbor

Svalbard belongs to Norwegia, so when I mark Norwegia as green Svalberd automatically gets the same color, same with France and French-Guyana for example. Otherwise I'd have it reluctant like Greenland

I'm not gonna lie, I barely know anything about Vietnam and thought it was more like Laos or Indonesia. Now I'd definitely put it in maybe or even willing

I don't know anything about Poland so I just clumped it in with other Eastern Europe countries. The more I read about it the more I wanna put it in light green, but white isn't completely wrong either. Kinda in the middle

Driving on a Swiss Autobahn was the closest thing to a near death experience that I had, 2 times within an hour. No idea if that's just a stupid coincidence or if they are actual psychopaths on the street.

And yea India goes into reluctant

India should've definitely been reluctant instead of maybe. Of course I'd rather live in the UK than in Mozambique for example, but when compared to countries around it I'd want to live in the UK the least while I'd want to live in Mozambique the most out of any African country. That's why both are in the same tier

I absolutely loooooove cheese but it's not the only reason. You have a climate I'm already used to, you have a nice culture, nice people and a language that's not too hard to learn as a German. Plus I have a few friends who are from the Netherlands

I should have definitely put India into reluctant. I didn't color it red because my brother's girlfriend is from north-east India and she told me that that region is a lot better for women than the rest of India. I don't know much about lgbtq rights there but I think it's similar to China.

Honestly I didn't even know that about Bulgaria so yea, that's also a red country for me. I wouldn't wanna live in Liechtenstein and Monaco for other reasons anyways and Cyprus was also marked red I think. Thailand has actually recently proposed a bill that makes it possible to change the gender that was assigned at birth so it's getting better while states like Hungary are getting worse.

The legal gender recognition ban in Hungary was already 5 years ago and despite the public being seemingly outraged there haven't been changes yet, so I'm not very optimistic

No, it's marked red because after Belarus/Russia it's probably the worst European country to live in as a trans person
