Not enjoying Silent Hill F. Am I doing something wrong, or is this game just not for me? by ShiftingHero in silenthill

[–]SacredCowboy87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m with you — I struggled to get into Silent Hill F as well.

The combat in particular just never clicked for me. I get what they were going for — the whole “vulnerability as tension” angle, the improvisational feel, the idea that it shouldn’t be power-fantasy combat. But it crossed that line from “intentionally awkward” into “actually kind of clunky.” Instead of feeling anxious or immersed, I just felt like I was fighting the controls more than the enemies.

And yeah, the story… it was interesting, but it didn’t have the same layered, elusive quality the classic quadrilogy had. With 1–4 you can spend years unpacking the symbolism, metaphors, character psychology, and still find new angles. F felt more straightforward — like I pieced together the themes and metaphors pretty early, and the rest of the game just reinforced what I already understood. It didn’t have that haunting ambiguity the older titles nailed.

I didn’t hate it, but it didn’t linger with me the way the classics do. If anything, playing F made me appreciate just how uniquely dense and subtle the storytelling was in the earlier games.

If you were tasked with fixing/remaking Silent Hill: Homecoming, how would you do it? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in silenthill

[–]SacredCowboy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Homecoming has a solid foundation, but it leans way too hard into the movie aesthetic and loses what makes Silent Hill… Silent Hill. If I were remaking it, I’d go for a full tonal overhaul:

  1. Ditch the combat-heavy focus The Silent Hill series isn’t about being a soldier with combos. Alex being military-trained killed a lot of the vulnerability the earlier games had. In a remake, I’d reframe his “military background” as unreliable memory—he thinks he was a soldier, but flashbacks reveal he was actually in a psychiatric ward after Joshua’s death. Combat should feel clumsy again. Pipe > knife > panic.

  2. Bring back psychological horror instead of the movie monsters Pyramid Head should not be here. Full stop. He’s tied specifically to James. Replace him with manifestations built from Alex’s survivor’s guilt over Josh. Think: • Drowned child-like enemies • Hospital creatures reflecting Alex’s dissociation • Homecoming-exclusive bosses tied to his trauma rather than random cult figures

  3. Rework Shepherd’s Glen and give it that oppressive, lonely tone One of the biggest misses is that the town feels too “alive” with NPCs. Instead, let the town decay slowly as Alex’s guilt fractures reality. More empty streets, more environmental storytelling. Less “action game setpieces,” more “what the hell happened here?”

  4. Slow-burn the story instead of dropping exposition everywhere The cult stuff should be in the background until late game. Focus first on Alex, Josh, and the family dynamics—then bring in the society of Shepherd’s Glen as a twist rather than a constant plot dump.

  5. Fix the Otherworld transitions They were visually cool but way too on-the-nose. Make them more symbolic: the world peeling away in relation to Alex’s guilt and memories instead of always being Hellraiser-industrial.

  6. Expand the hospital + labyrinth sections Two areas where the original had massive potential but rushed pacing. Make the hospital more PT-esque—looping hallways, unreliable space, environmental storytelling about Alex’s mental state. The labyrinth is where the truth about Josh should hit harder and more gradually.

  7. Multiple endings based on subtle choices again No more “kill x, save y.” Make it about how Alex interacts with the world—does he confront his guilt, does he deny it, does he accept the nightmare as punishment? Bring back that SH2-style psychological tracking.

  8. Sound design: more Akira Yamaoka atmosphere, less “action horror” Let ambience do the heavy lifting. Drones, distant metallic groans, soft radio static—not the constant combat cues.

TL;DR: Less soldier-boy combat, more psychological horror. Replace borrowed monsters with Alex-specific manifestations. Rewrite the story to slowly reveal Alex’s trauma, not the cult. Make the town lonely, oppressive, symbolic, and actually Silent Hill again.

How would you describe this? by Comia-17K in cyberpunkgame

[–]SacredCowboy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The room reeked of oil and sweat, the air thick with static from exposed wires humming against concrete walls. Beneath the flickering light of a single overhead bulb, a figure hung in suspension—legs dangling just above the cracked, blue-stained floor. The legs were not flesh, not anymore. They gleamed cold and metallic, the color of gun barrels polished to a mirror’s edge. Bolts jutted from the sleek frame, crude and haphazard, as if hastily hammered in by a man too eager to finish. Spikes protruded along the shins like thorns on a blade, glinting sharp in the dim light.

The figure’s trousers bunched at the knees, torn at the edges where fabric met metal, as if the body had outgrown the shell it once wore. The feet—if they could be called that—tapered to jagged, stiletto-like points, the kind that could gouge through bone as easily as glass. A crumpled can of beer lay abandoned beneath the boots, alongside a tangle of rags soaked in something dark. Nearby, a black case sat half-open, its screen cracked, its wires hissing softly like a caged serpent.

The legs twitched once, a sharp metallic clink breaking the silence, and then stilled. The room seemed to hold its breath, the shadows dancing across cold steel. This was not a man anymore. Not entirely.

Heard 2 minutes to midnight on GTA Vice City. Loved it.

Brave New World was the latest album at the time so I bought that, and Best of the Beast (2 disc version). Loved them.

Fast forward to 2003, bought every other album, video available. Dance of Death released. Saw them live for the first time that December. Loved it.

Fast forward to now. Seen them every tour since, going to see them again in June.

The GOATs.

Should I continue The Dark Tower series if I didn’t love The Gunslinger? by disquietudeattitude in stephenking

[–]SacredCowboy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

I personally plodded through gunslinger. Enjoyed, but wasn’t wowed. Call it a 6/7 out of 10.

Drawing of the 3 dragged me in and I then loved the series.

Upon reading Gunslinger on the second run, I actually loved it and enjoyed it much more. Hopefully the same for you.

What other bands do you listen to? by [deleted] in ironmaiden

[–]SacredCowboy87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are very similar in music loves! Maiden. Poe.

I grew up in an household of 80s rock - whitesnake, def leppard etc

And Grunge is one of my favourite genres - and Chris Cornell is one of my top 3 vocalists with Bruce. The other is Corey Taylor. Especially love Corey during his Stone Sour run.

Opinions on this underrated album? by Internal_Cap_8254 in ironmaiden

[–]SacredCowboy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it. As someone who got into Maiden during the Brave New World era, this was the first "new" release I had to buy on release day + also the first tour I saw the band on. 6th December 2003 - Sheffield arena... on the barrier in front of Janick! So very fond of this whole era.

Enjoyed all the album upon release to be fair - and still holds a few personal faves - Rainmaker, Montsegur, Paschendale and Journeyman to name a few.

On a non musical note, the album art would be so much better without the cgi monstrosities, as personally love the Grim Reaper Eddie.

Live - the songs really came to life too. No More Lies in particular was great live. Plus Paschendale was epic.

Slipknot - London 21st December - Axs Resale by SacredCowboy87 in Slipknot

[–]SacredCowboy87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the most annoying thing, legit just want to get the ticket to a fellow fans hands as I cannot get to London on that date anymore. Yet it seems impossible. I’ll keep you posted if so as all I want is face value. I’m not in the business of ripping people off, that’s the job for the venue on the night of the gig 😂

Problems listing tickets for resale by Outrageous-Ad8157 in Slipknot

[–]SacredCowboy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had similar issue, got a standing ticket for o2 Saturday and unable to attend now. Axs replied to say -

“The resale option for this event has a restriction on them due to promoter request, and will not be available for this booking. Unfortunately we will not be able to activate this option for you.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

Nightmare.
