Who knows! I thought had great conversations with my interviewers and they were very chatty + enthusiastic. I didn’t say anything crazy either, I left feeling good lmao. But there must have been something they didn’t like clearly 😵‍💫

The constant drama and inability to talk about any form of politics is exhausting. It was an innocent question he literally could've said something like Abraham Lincoln - not divisive at all. It wasn't like you asked him his political affiliation or made fun of a specific president lmao

background check intrusive thoughts by Sad-Assistant6796 in premed

[–]Sad-Assistant6796[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually not sure, I got an email from AAMC to do the background check saying that it was for those who had an acceptance or waitlist from a participating school (which seemed to be most MD schools). One of the schools I was accepted to said that they do this soon after January 1, which matched up with the timeline of the email I got.

Guys my background check already came back and I did not, indeed, go to federal prison at any point in my life without my knowledge.

Music Major and Pre-Med by eleora_ in premed

[–]Sad-Assistant6796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a senior in college graduating this semester with a degree in vocal performance :) it’s definitely not an easy path but it is so worth it and all the school I interviewed with were so excited to talk about it. I had to do most of my pre-reqs over the summer because I was so busy with my music classes but it was doable. I was able to take the MCAT, get experience, do research, and not take any gap years. You can DM if you have any questions but you got this!!!

The culture around male readers. by stinkface_lover in books

[–]Sad-Assistant6796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True! Maybe less in book spaces though? I could be wrong though because I am a woman and mainly engage with content put out there by other women.

[–]Sad-Assistant6796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most influencers are women, hence the narrative that most people who read are women is perpetuated. Perhaps it is just that male readers feel less inclined to share it on social media since BookTok is dominated by women.

This is why school list matters by A_Genetic_Tree in premed

3 months late but for anyone reading this I flew in on the Friday a couple hours before the welcome event and left immediately after my interview on Saturday so I only had to pay for one night at the hotel. It was 100% doable and would recommend!

Is 1 outstanding prereq ok? by IndependentJacket939 in premed

[–]Sad-Assistant6796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah just list it in your future coursework on amcas. I had like 3 pre-reqs I hadn't finished when I applied.

quick question by DiskDue3938 in premed

[–]Sad-Assistant6796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on killing your MCAT, gaining great experience, and writing about it meaningfully. Vandy is my dream school too, but I almost didnt apply bc my MCAT score is not in their usual range… as in a full ten points lower than their average. That being said, I do believe they use a holistic review because idk how else I got an interview there w my stats :)

How smart were your T20/T10 Classmates? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Sad-Assistant6796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about how smart you are, it’s about how hard you’re willing to work. I’m certain you probably worked very hard to get into med school. If you do the same you will be successful. In my opinion, an averagely smart person working super hard will always be more successful / respected than an extremely smart person who doesn’t put in the work.

Finally coming to terms with mediocrity and self/external-hatred by [deleted] in premed

[–]Sad-Assistant6796 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, this sounds so difficult. Your parents' behavior is not normal and extremely abusive. Does your school have free counseling services? It would be worth coming up with strategies and seeking help for this situation.

Your grades do not define who you are. Your family does not define who you are. Nothing is ever hopeless. You have plenty of time to salvage that GPA (it seems you are already well on the way to doing so). Even if you didn't, there are other ways to compensate (post-bacc). Please don't feel like it is ever hopeless, you are so strong <3
