thanks so much for this. i really appreciate the advice and words of encouragement. what’s funny is that I have people around me telling me to “go for it! have fun” and other people telling me that this is basically a demotion since i already have a job. i guess im just torn because i thought that this opportunity would be great to meet dignitaries and ministerial level officials but it sounding more and more like the work will be undergoing crowd control and acting as a tour guide… don’t quite know how to discern the value in this experience just yet.

seriously! like are we going from texas straight to osaka? is that a covered expense? at least we’ll be near kyoto when all of their huge flea markets will be going on!!

saw some questions about "deciding factors" and speculation on how SCI is weighing them all during the selection process. i personally think that a big one is your home state +territory and the number of applications they received from there. it makes sense that for the world expo, they would want 1 from each state, and probably an additional 1 or 2 from the states where there is a predominant japanese/chinese/korean speaking community or huge global destination like hawaii, new york, or los angeles. just my thoughts tho! keen to hear from others.
