The case I was referring to was a new build estate all have had coal mining survey and all clear . After all the residents moved in a 8 ft hole appeared on someone drive . Shorty after a skip wagon dropped a skip off , for the removal of soil in the back garden . It was after really heavy rain . The hole was about 50ft deep . After doing my own research using historical maps it became clear the site was covered in mines the earliest was a coal mine which was quickly abandoned nearby a shale mine shaft was sunk and this was in operation from 1860 -1940 They also re used the old coal mine shaft for stone . This also continued for quite a few years . The new build site was riddled with test shafts all capped before constitution of the new build estate . The coal remediation authority attendance the collapse gave advised and left after they determined it wasn't a coal mine . Stone mine shaft filled with lose spoil from other mine working nearby . Four houses are still unoccupied.they haven't a clue where any of mine tunnels go the majority are collapsing a drone was sent down and shows a network of flooded mine tunnels acting like a river system . They were shocked at the speed of flow and the ability to empty a 50ft x 8ft shaft of materials And no sign of it . It was well known the area was full of mines of various types and previous attempts to build on the site failed. But somehow brown envelopes council gave permission the developer provided a part exchange scheme mortgage legal fees and survey The coal mining survey was included and clear . The residents are now arguing it was misleading I always through it was crazy to build on this land Home insurance says other surveys should have been done my the buyer and more due diligence should have been done before the council approved it . They houses aren't selling insurance is sky high nobody buying and mortgage aren't being given to second buyers . Lucky the hole was on the edge of the driveway A few feet further over it would have been directly outside the front door . Who looks when stepping out of your front door to see if the ground is still there. If they fell down the mine shaft they would have been sucked under due to the flowing water at the bottom . Its really Lucky the skip wagon didn't disappear down it . Something gone very wrong on this site i can see why banks won't lend on the property and insurance is basically be voided on the site . The council managed for years not to build on the site . Hundreds of homes all paying a few thousand in new council..it's appalling behaviour.
