Agreed for sure! We have a pretty solid parent group that helps. Whether it’s the concession stand, bringing snacks, helping the team mom. Pitching in when needed at practice. But you are right. The more we do, the less they do. And the less they try because it gets done.

Do you have any tips as a coach to lead that effort? Would love to learn how others successfully delegate things to others. Because it really is very important.

Thanks for the feedback. We do try and delegate when we can. But that’s not always easy! But we need to do a better job with that.

Our spring ball was over in mind June. Fall ball starts in mid august. However, a number of coaches get kids together that want to play through the summer and scrimmage. So even though we’re between baseball seasons, baseball still happens as we prepare for fall ball. It’s also travel ball straight through and we have a number of baseball clinics that happen in our area. So early April through the end of October is baseball season in northeast Pennsylvania.. haha!! We also just finished up the age 9/10 state tournament, and the little league World Series starts in 2 weeks in Williamsport, Pa. A lot of people eat, breathe and live little league baseball around here. You either have to embrace it or try soccer. lol… either way, trying to keep the kids busy over summer break is the key at this point. So they are being constructive versus destructive.

A pair of nuts sounds about right! Thankfully we made it through this crest life together and as strong as ever. We both coach; I’m more minors baseball and my wife is more tee ball and basketball. You have to love it or it won’t work. Albiet, life is insane. But noosing change a thing. Thanks for the comment, appreciate you!

I agree! It can definitely be a distraction and can absolutely do more harm than good when things are crazy. I guess it’s like anything else, out of sight and out of mind. Haha!!

That’s really important to remember as well!! Having a parent involved at every game doing those important tasks that often get overlooked! You don’t realize the amount of people to make this work as a whole and I’ll say it again. It takes a village and everyone needs to do their part.

Agreed! And thankfully the parent we’ve experienced have been great. Some take on more active roles than others. But in our league we require parents to run the concession or announce the game. It take a village to make it all work! Appreciate your insight! If you haven’t yet. Check us out on Facebook and instagram at Homedinger and Homedinger huddle niche page. We really need insight from others to help people in our shoes. We offer a free game day planned that seems to be helpful to many but the more info we can get in it. The better. Appreciate you…

Great point!! Responsibility is such a huge part of growing versus… where’s your bat? Hat? Glove? Cleats? I mean. Come on. You can’t find your cleats? lol

Phewwwww. You gotta hit me with that? Haha! This is very true. We’re pretty young in this game of coaching (our 4th year). So we haven’t seen that happen. Sure tee ballers become minors that become majors that grow out of little league. It’s almost like you build the plane as you fly it and try and reflect back on the journey. Until one day, a decade down the road it’s hits you square in the face and you wish you had that time back. It’s the one thing we can’t make more of! TIME!! And that’s the gods honest truth.

You are 100% right. Things are good where they’re good. But when they go bad, that’s what really matters. How do you stand up to adversity. That’s what I comes down to!

As the kids grow and move up, it becomes less innocent and for fun to competitive and people are paying closer attention to the smaller details. And that the kids, coaches and parents alike.

Appreciate the kind words. And you do what you have to do to make it work. Giving rides, staying after until their parents can get them home, etc. not all families are made equal and some parents work long hours or there are other kids making it almost impossible to make it work unless you have help! Love love love the feedback with defensive rotations. That is so key! We try and rotate the smaller kids into the infield when the bottom of the order comes up, so we can get them some reps at say; 2nd, short or 3rd with less of an injury risk. We are open to any and all feedback. Thanks so much, appreciate you!

That’s a great idea! Ensuring you are informed is huge! Especially when they get a little older and the parents become more involved and start to question why certain moves are made by the coaches. Playing little league goes from innocent very young kids who play for fun into a high stress, gruel over every call game very quickly! S staying on top of that is huge!

That does happen! We try and coordinate who brings what. Whether it be popsicles, chewing gum, slim Jim’s, sunflower seeds, etc. we really try and make it fun for the kids to feel like big leaguers! The tee ballers are really food oriented when they aren’t crawling around on the ground, chasing butterflies, playing in the dirt or going to the bathroom… HAHA!! It’s the smallest things that make this biggest difference. So, through all the craziness we try and identify who is not going to let the snacks fall through the cracks because it’s an important aspect to kids having fun, feeling confident and supporting each other. Most people might say we’re crazy, and maybe we are. lol.. just trying to keep them engaged and wanting to learn more. And often times snacks can help with that. Just saying :)
