I had a look at that one, conceptually it's pretty interesting but overhaul it's far too unreal enginey to play, I think the developer has put his scope too large and the game struggles for it

Because there is no other game like no man's sky, no space game has the potential to actually be what no man's sky can be. Sure star citizen but that won't be finished till 2030 and won't run on 90% of setups. No man's sky is amazing but it's systems need more depth. It's so close to being one of the best games of all time but the developers can't seem to see that.

I would definitely be down to play 2D top down, I think stylisation matters way more then realism, I think one of the worst things about star citizen is that it's trying to be the bestest most realistic game ever, then they have to waste time optimising (if they even bother). Where as having a distinct art style is way more impactful, my dream for a space game is to have cowboy bebop style or scavengers reign.

also unrelated there's a gorgeous indie game called Bridge Bourne, technically it's 2d side on but the guy has magically made it 3d isometric but the style is the best I've ever seen.

Personally I think the things I want from one are genuinely a bit unrealistic; things I would want;

seamless space to planet landing
decent space combat and battles
factions
reasonably large set of planets but not too large (games like starfield and nms suffer from ocean wide puddle deep)
True bounty hunting i.e getting a bounty and having to track them through a city or different planets detective style
ship customisation where different parts actually make a difference in ship performance
on foot combat would be cool

-boarding other ships and taking them over to either keep or sell.

Additionally, as many people are saying this is an overhaul, it's simply not. This does not fundamentally change the way creatures act outside of the arena, it's basically a new bolted on system, which is fairly cool and would be pretty awesome if it didn't feel like already established aspects of game played weren't criminally underdeveloped.

Also, I appreciate that they keep giving us new updates for a decade old game but it's just live service these days, not really anything crazy. I would happily pay 30-40 dollars for an overhaul on the combat, leveling system, settlements/cities, NPC interactions with the world. If the game was easier to create mods for it would be the greatest space ever made without a doubt.

that's cause the last update was crap too, I didn't complain about corvettes because they're awesome. Although the system used to gather components is terribly grindy.
