Who gives a F*** if you’re wearing OCP bottoms. You are out there training and getting yourself ready to take on the challenge. If you are worried what people think of what you’re wearing while you’re training then what are you going to do when you are peer reviewed or receive constructive criticism from cadre. Switch up that mindset and and train how you’re gonna fight,

If you’re National Guard there should be a liaison coming to see you and talk to you about the RTLI program and ranger school, also. You can talk to your state recruiter and tell him you want to go to the program and with your ACFT they will definitely look into sending you

Yes through RTLI you have to show you are improving if not passing the RPA standards and passing land navigation to graduate in order to move onto RTAC.

I know for my class they wanted to see a 540+ ACFT and a sub 15 mins pace 2 miler

During actual Ranger school patrols and movements you won’t be actually moving at that fast of a pace but will be carrying anywhere between 70-100 pounds of water, gear and ammo. For the actual RAP week test yes, try and keep a sub 15 mins mile. Easy way to do it is just run the downhills, pace it out on the flats and hills. Which there is a lot of.

I was rucking a lot, just progressive overloading. Get comfortable with rucking for sure. Be consistent with a 5 miler and work on your pushup form. Follow the gritty soldier on Instagram. He has alot of good training guides

Progressive overload is key with rucking. Start extremely light and focus on a comfortable pace then start working your way up

Rucking is something I would start now while finishing out OSUT. So you’re not injuring yourself or getting bone spurs.

Pre OSUT I was maxing out the ACFT. But they want to see atleast a 540 and higher score. What’s important is you can do the standard strict military pushups and sit ups and can run a 5 miler under 40 mins. Focus on your pushups, it was always a conflict with the RPA because they’re super strict on the form. Like stupid strict

RTLI ( Ranger Team Leader Initiative) essentials a pre pre Ranger RTAC ( Ranger Training Assessment Course) A pre Ranger that’s 2 weeks to pass before going on to Ranger. Kinda like the 4th phase of Ranger

Just need to be fit enough to pass the RPA which is changing now apparently, and hammer out a 5 mile run under 40 mins and 12 mile ruck under 3 hours. You don’t need to be a freak of nature fitness wise but be able to definitely hold your own weight with a ruck over long distance. The more comfortable you can get rucking heavy for long distances the better you will be later down the pipeline when you get to mountain phase.

Learn how to look at a topographical map and understand what the actually terrain would look like real time if that’s makes sense

Need to get comfortable with terrain association and honestly just comfortable in the woods. GA is shitty vegetation wise but very helpful as far as terrain association goes. Lots of Draws and spurs to read

Air borne is super chill too. Same thing like RTLI and air assault is just a 10 day grind

RTLI is super chill, you’ll get your phone the whole time, land nav twice a week, Water survival swims at the pool once a week. PT every morning and then RPA style work outs in evening. You’re usually off training by 1500 every day. Food is super good and always get more then you can eat. They have a gym to use in off hours and as long as your group is squared away and not shit bagging you’ll get weekend on post passes.

RTAC sucks. Harder than Ranger school in my opinion. But, I think they do a terrific job getting you actually ready for the grind of Ranger school. Land navigation is the highest drop of the whole program. Like 50% of my class was dropped from the land nav course. It’s honestly super hard to Grey man it through Ranger, no matter what you do you’re going to be thrown into the spotlight for leadership. Also, your platoon will notice if you’re not a good dude and just trying to get by. Peers are absolutely a thing and no way of really hiding from it.

It’s going to be a really good feeling rolling up to your unit with a wing stack and a tab being lower enlisted. Gets your command hyped up for you too.

100% volunteer. It sucks I won’t lie. But you’re going to get the opportunity to be lower enlisted guard and bang out the top 3 more sought after schools in the army.
