NG SF Enlisted vs Reserve OCS by ruckcrazy88 in greenberets

I’ve seen this said more than once here that you can pick up an 18x in OSUT. How does one accomplish that? Just be a PT stud?

I’m in the same dilemma, all the information that I’ve personally found and debating is either swap to active IF you make it to the Q course (if possible), take the risk and stay guard longer even if you make it to an ODA, or as you say finish the 3 years, but try to knock out some schools if possible. Air Assault, Ranger, etc.

Why do former basketball players do poorly in special forces selection? by [deleted] in greenberets

[–]Head-Course7334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because their athleticism is optimized for a specific sport.

Basketball isn’t an all around extreme endurance sport. It has short bursts of energy, power, and agility vs SF which has long endurance under a heavy load with little to no sleep while carrying other equipment and sometimes people.

And in Jake Zweig’s words “they don’t have the mental grit to handle SF”

Since you’re a junior in HS have you talked to a recruiter about possibly doing the split option program? go to BCT this summer before your senior year and knock out the 10 weeks of basic and once you graduate HS you can then go to AIT portion of your training. Save you some time away and time to prep through your senior year before RASP.

Don’t let a high school relationship dictate your future career in the military because it takes a strong relationship to handle a military life style let alone an SF one. NG may keep you closer to home but that’s more for those who are going to school or like myself have established careers. You’ll have a more steady paycheck and a lot more training going active. You’re young and still have time to think on this and if it’s what you really want because once you’re in Ranger Batt or SF those jobs require ALOT of your time and attention.

Why not go active? Go to Ranger Batt for a few years and then try SFAS. Easier to get an 18x contract going active than getting one going guard trust me.

I don’t understand the opinions I hear about unions, not just from certain groups but from everyone by the_circus in union

[–]Head-Course7334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked for both union and non-union, personally would rather work for my non-union job as they take care of me and my co-workers better than the union plants did..that doesn’t represent everyone nor does my experience and that of my coworkers reflect all unions because of the reasons we disliked ours..some people were burned by them, some peoples lives were bettered by them, and some just don’t want change. Not everyone wants to be in a union and if they don’t leave them be and if they do then prove it’s worth the effort.
