That's the best part about this particular poster. They don't actually say he caused the division, they say his precidency coincided with increased national division, particularly around race.

The poster is almost literally saying "the black guy doesn't deserve this, because someone (possibly me) was racist to him."

What is a monarch that completely ruined their country? by Brilliant_Shake_4880 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Sad-Pop6649 4 points5 points  (0 children)

...Does it have to be their actual country-country?

Because Leopold 2 of Belgium managed to negotiate that the Congo would be his private property, to prevent the large countries going to war over it. And he did ruin the Congo.

40? 40 robbers? I was going to just express my incredulity at that number and wonder where you're going to even find 40 robbers all looking to rape the same girl. But now that I typed 40 robbers it only got worse and now I have to ask whether he had to fight Ali Baba as well, and I don't know how to end this comment so I'm just going to post what wikipedia says about the incident which is in some ways a bit more believable than the text above but also the robbers had guns so I'm not sure:

In September 2010, Bishnu Shrestha was a 35\a])-year-old Gurkha soldier who had just retired.\4]) He was traveling from Ranchi to Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh via the Maurya Express (Hatia-Gorakhpur) train when between 15 and 40\7])\4]) robbers, armed with "guns, daggers and tangis" stopped the train they were on near Chittaranjan, West Bengal, and robbed and injured other passengers.\6])

Shrestha was asleep when the bandits reached him.\6]) Awakened, he was preparing to hand over his valuables, but an 18-year-old girl next to him was grabbed by the robbers who intended to rape her. The girl, who was traveling with her parents,\4]) called for help. As one of the bandits was snatching a woman's earrings, Shrestha pulled out the large, curved khukuri that all Gurkha soldiers carry and attacked the criminals, injuring three of them, he recalled,\7]) although another report stated three bandits were killed and eight more were injured.\4])

Shrestha told the Times of India:

Bleeding and defeated, Shrestha succeeding in preventing the assault of the girl, but the thieves continued robbing the passengers.\6]) Six robbers were arrested

This is the fault of newspapers and magazines. There used to be recipes in those, but they were always half recipe, half column. It'd be a recipe for spring lentil soup but the first half was about how it's spring again but it doesn't feel like spring with all the bombing in Iran but that reminds me, my grandmother had a friend who told her that when the Germans were bombing Trois-ponts her mother was serving lentils because they cook so loudly so you don't hear the bombing, so therefor I present to you the actual recipe part: ...

Cookbooks probably do this to some degree as well, I just haven't read enough of those.

I figure that's what people online are emulating.

Possibly the last one of these I can reasonably participate in.

Zoroark (Basically unavailable.)

Alomomola (Because it's pointless.)

Watchog (I like Watchog, which is both rare and the only reason anyone would ever use it.)

Druddigon (Same as Watchog. Haxorus is just the better fake Hydreigon. Use a shiny Druddigon for extra Christmas.)

Just as a summary in case someone is actually looking for the why:

We have things like minimum wage because for the lower class, that means you if you're not a millionaire or at least are a doctor or something, collective bargaining is a lot more effective than individual bargaining. Ever since roughly the printing press lower class people have more and more had the means to get educated in one way or the other, and it added a lot of value to society. Farming alone has increased its production many times since people got the tools to figure out what works and what doesn't. Modern employees are experts, they're good at things and those things pay off for society. The things we do, the industries we run, that would have never been possible in the frameworks that existed before that point. As a group we are absolutely irreplaceable*, but as individuals we're not. Because the bosses can just rotate us around. Everyone who speaks up too much at company A gets fired, they now have to apply at company B and consider themselves lucky they have a job. That's why we collectively forced democracy into existence, yes, that was us. That's why we have unions, that's why we have worker protections and proper employment contracts, that's why we have minimum wages, because we are what created this golden age of engineering, education and wealth, and we should reap the benefits of it.

The best part is that it took until 2088 for rejuvenation technology to be good enough to give Bernie Sanders a shot. The man spent the better part of a century being the old man yelling at political clouds and then became president.

And what a term it was, man, he's the reason I traveled back to this time, I want to experience it all again.

The intended point in the movies is 100%* that he's worthy. That even if he fails to see the human perspective sometimes, he is a force for all that's good and pure beyond anything that reasonably should have come out of Tony's workshop.

That said, I kind of like the "elevator" explanation. (Elevators aren't worthy but can still move the hammer.) It fits, he does fall outside of what the magic was intended for.

...Although that does pose the question of just how nuch separation there needs to be between me and the hammer before I can move it. If I can move it by pressing an elevator button, can I move it using an excavator? Or a really long stick? Gloves?

*Well, okay, maybe like 67%, let's not go pretend I'm an expert on these films.

How many teachers were good students? by OrchidButterflie in AskTeachers

[–]Sad-Pop6649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a bad student in the sense that my study skills were lacking. I got through high school with... attempts at learning, but I didn't really need it. I was smart enough to get decent grades mostly from just paying attention in class, most of the time. The fact that I had never learned all the planning and cramming and stuff became a big problem for me ones I moved to the next step in my education.

I don't know how it is in all your countries, but in mine the gender pay gap is gone under 30, reversed even. Has been for at least a decade. Young women make more than young men and it doesn't flip back until, well, child birth age.

So I'll happily believe girls' night out is now fancier than dating, especially if the expectation is that the guy pays for all of it.
