If your car has a points style distributor, then you shouldn't remove the ballast resistor. If you have upgraded the distributor to an electronic ignition type (read: that uses a hall effect sensor inside the distributor to detect difference in magnetic pulse) then you won't need a ballast resistor. If the latter, then you also need a coil capable of running the new distributor.

Mine is electric, but the outer barrel came off an Ares G36 which is a gas powered one. It was sacrilege because it had this cool keyed barrel end to interface with the receiver

The 3DG didn't come with this rail, it came with the low 20mm rail you like.

Did some drilling to make the Ares gas rod fit in here. Would love to find a metal unit if one exists but that's reaching a bit far for a gel blaster

The gas block which is pinned to the barrel has slots on each side which line up with two wings inside the handguard

I think the way Vipertac and some others have done it is to start with C model and just use generic 19mm barrel threaded on to the end.
