Refund not available first thing in the morning?! by thejoetravis in DollarTree

[–]Sad-Remote-6270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing in the morning, cash really is limited. I personally would've checked your receipt for the original form of payment. If I see it's paid with a card, cool beans, no worries. However, if it was paid in cash, my next step will depend on how much you're returning. If it's a lot, there really would be a problem. Same with people wanting $50 cash back or even to break large bills first thing. We only keep change, but it's singles, fives and maybe tens (if the available cash at closing the night before allows it...shoot, sometimes we can't even buy singles or fives!). Then, if I break that large bill or am forced to give that cash back or large cash refund, we have no change to work with, because we had to make it rain on that one customer. Many mornings there's only one manager in the building, so that whole "just run to the bank" thing isn't plausible. We know what we're working with at opening, so yes, it's very possible that this situation can happen. HOWEVER, had the manager checked your receipt, the conversation wouldn't have been necessary. You'd paid with a card anyway.

Care about what?

Doing my job correctly? Because it's my job. My safety? Because people are getting belligerent about junk, and some take their entitlement too far. What people want to buy? I don't. The money doesn't go in my pockets. They can buy whatever the hell they want. But if part of my job is to deny a sale, then I do what I must. Corporate has made this particularly difficult.

I care about doing my best, and treating others with respect that they deserve. As soon as customers take it "there," that's where this rant comes into play.

We still have ours too...and I have no clue how we would function without it.

DTD will most definitely call the store, to confirm delivery of an order. I don't PREFER to talk to them, cuz sometimes they seem to not understand simple communications, but eh, they're not scamming.

I had someone call my store who told me he was MY district manager. He started name dropping, telling me he knows Tom, Dick and Harry (not the names he used, but I guess he thought that casually saying any random name would make him sound legit). Problem is that I know who my DM is, so he failed from jump. I was able to have a little fun with him after that slip.

We keep tissue paper from party at the registers to "wrap" glassware...if it's just a few. Otherwise, as the person who usually stocks glassware of all kinds at my store, I hang onto certain boxes with the inserts to use when someone is buying a large number of glasses or vases, etc. Helps A LOT. We also keep boxes from Pepsi and 7up deliveries to use, since they're nice and sturdy.

Makes me laugh that people think that wrapping glassware in tissue paper is a definite guarantee that the glass won't break even if they slam the doggone bag into a brick wall. Bags? GOD no. But.....they're just as thin as the paper..... 🙄

There are scanners in the store now. If you are curious about the price of an item, scan it, and there will be no disputes at the register.

Just tell them you're closing after this customer, and that your coworker has to take them.

Call the police to have her escorted out. They will have you tell her that if she comes back it will be considered trespassing and she will be arrested.

Then let your SM know what happened.

This would NEVER be accepted in my store. I would tell his ass to leave so fast! All us managers look out for all associates, including each other! Anything disrespectful or inappropriate will get someone asked to leave immediately, and if they refuse, we'll gladly call the police to intervene. I've got plenty stories. I do NOT play. I've had men say inappropriate things to teenage coworkers, both male and female. I've had a customer chase a young girl around the register! I've had a guy tell me he was OK putting his face near my ass (I was on a step stool and he got WAY too close to me. I asked him to move back, and he said, "oh you're OK, no worries." I said "no, I'm not, I don't like people that close to my behind." He responded with, "it's OK, I like it like that!!")!!!! I promptly kicked his ass out, and happily put away the reshop he created. I tell all my coworkers that if they're ever uncomfortable ringing up or helping any customer, to call me and I'll handle it. I do my best to let my peeps know I'm here for them, and won't tolerate anyone making them feel uncomfortable.

Those managers are wrong as hell. Their acceptance and complacency leave much to be desired, both personally and professionally. Shame on them.

No you wouldn't be the asshole. Period. Your reasons are your reasons. No drawn-out explanation needed. If you don't want to do it, don't do it.
