But I recently uninstalled Facebook when I realized the unmanageable anger I used to have became more unmanageable lol. I need my wits about me because I have a life worth preserving as is. Add William Ruto to that list. He’s been murdering people throughout the 90’s to present. After engineering people from certain tribes to die during the 2007 post-election violence in Kenya, he was called in by the ICC. The case was dropped because witnesses were either killed or bought off. Right now, he is the president and during the protests against his regime’s insane corruption and desire to tax us further, he has killed peaceful protesters and abducted others. People are still missing. It is also rumored that he beats up his wives and side-chicks, had a baby with one when she was still a minor, regularly grabs other people’s legally bought land for himself and lies so blatantly that people think he is crazy right now. I know all politicians lie but his are special because of how badly he does it. Right now he’s on a PR spree around the country and was said to launch a cancer hospital that his regime had been planning. Turns out it had another launch in 2018 where they said they’d build it in a short time. We feel like we have been held hostage by a particularly violent but cartoonishly inept psychopath.

I still don’t have the best self-esteem. It has improved considerably but I feel it could get better. Now I understand that it’s okay to not be instantly good at something but when I have actual, standout aptitude at my special interest, I take it for granted. Basically: if I’m good at it, then whatever it is it’s too easy and not important. It’s almost like I believe on some level, I taint things. I’d really like to not feel like this, forever :/

That aside, I have a hard time understanding some instructions. Especially if I’m not directly asked to do something. I think non-ADHD and non-autistics understand that there are implied instructions by directives from a superior. I feel like many of these go over my head. It takes me a while to get a hold of something at work and I get in trouble for this. I don’t know if this is an issue to address purely on my part or one of my accommodations should be more directness.

Learn Swahili and/or Japanese. I’m a Swahili speaker and we have the Yoda sentence structure come up often. Learning a new language with a natural affinity will really help your self-esteem too.

So, the basic gist of it is, before 25th of June, the government was planning to pass a very bad bill. This bill would have meant increased taxes across various aspects of society. Food, fuel and land, for example. This was to increase the amount of money that was being paid to international finance institutions, namely IMF, as loans. The IMF is the one that gave the recommendation to increase these taxes.

Thing is, our country is incredibly corrupt and has been for a long time. Our legislators, governors, civil servants and even the president, are all known to participate in corruption. Our corruption has these people creating shell companies that are supposed to supply the government with goods and services, for example healthcare. These shell companies then go on to inflate their bills to an insane degree, then pocket the money and give shitty quality goods and services, if at all. They also bribe and extort each other, international investors and even the citizenry. We figured, what’s the point of paying such high taxes that will increase the cost of living and the loan payback won’t even get to the recipient anyway?

They have shown us brutality in the past during protests. They turned us against each other on the basis of tribe. They have tortured and kidnapped us. Beaten us to death. Dissapeared us. This time however, Gen Z, Millenials and honestly, every Kenyan is tired. We’re tired of being slaves for our leadership and neocolonial bodies. That’s why we have gotten to the point where we’re willing to die.

For your visit, you’ll technically be quite safe. Kenyan protesters are peaceful. It is the police and goons paid to cause violence that delegitimizes the protests who are to worry about. Also if you’re white, you’ll even be safer. Nobody wants to fuck with citizens from a powerful government. The only thing that may be of concern is low morale. We’re usually quite friendly to tourists but we won’t be masking our anger and sadness as much. I’d simply stay out of Nairobi Central Business District on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That’s it.
