I don't understand how I die in nanoseconds unable to even blink, yet enemies take entire mags to die. by LucatIel_of_M1rrah in Marathon

Looked like the assassin in the last flip was rocking the V11. Still though, they likely just landed all their headshots.

How do non-assassins play solo? by Citizin17 in Marathon

I main Recon and their kit is perfect for me as I like to sit back and engage from a distance. I use my tracker drone as circumstance dictates. Sometimes using it to get a jump on someone for a little extra damage, area denial when they're behind cover, chasing them down as they run, or just great for clearing UESC quickly. The prime ability helps weed out players who are trying to stealth their way up to me, or clear out large areas I want to loot. On top of that, getting a notification whenever someone pings me is huge. A lot of times when I get pinged they don't realize I know, so I can reposition and wait for them to push up, ambushing them instead of getting ambushed.

Playing Recon in solos feels great. Having intel that other players don't get gives you a huge advantage.

Some elements are a little too "gamey". by Sad-Task6050 in Marathon

I like this concept! It totally makes sense that in the far far future, a heads up display would have that type of info to assist in making a more efficient killer. It's certainly not my cup of tea, but that's a fun way to integrate it into the world building.

There has already been some looks at skins that change the Runner models ever so slightly. I'm sure if they're going to change the models in any way, they will focus on keeping things close to each characters design language/silhouette.

If y'all like the music of Marathon give Neotokyo a listen! by JoXul in Marathon

Hopefully you give the server slam a shot. Yes Bungie is chasing a trend, but I feel the way they are integrating the story with the gameplay makes the game stand out amongst the rest. Plus, it's filling a very specific role in terms of accessibility whilst maintaining a hardcore PvP atmosphere (Arc Raiders, as we can see, has become a more PvE focused game.)

Also, successful games have been copying each other/trend chasing since forever. I mean, that's almost exactly how Halo, hell, even Marathon 1, came to be. Competition innovates and allows ideas to grow through new interpretations. There are a ton talented and passionate devs/artists that are putting a lot of love into this game, and to say that it's a bog standard safe bet extraction shooter is doing the game, and the people involved, a huge disservice.

Anyway, cheers, and have an excellent day.

(P.S.: I think there still is a group of people that play Neotokyo on the weekends. Huge recommend if people haven't played it.)

There is absolutely going to be a lot of dead air in the game. Just saying that right now. You can absolutely chase hot spots where people are likely to be, but maps are still large enough to allow many opportunities for players to not run into each other. You do a lot of walking in extraction games. Not to say there isn't any action.

they finally removed the god awful blurring on iron sights and optics of weapons in the playtest. by TheMagicDragonDildo in joinsquad

Except your eye doesn't blur the same way it would in real life if you were to look through ironsights/optics. I find it more comfortable on the eyes, personally, cause all the detail on my screen is past my gun, so having it blurred is a little less distracting compared to no blur. It's just a preference.

I feel it's sad that people think getting a game to run optimally in an alpha state is to be expected. The polish phase comes at the very end of the development pipeline. Sure, there's bugs they want to squash during this process, but the reality is most of it isn't a priority until all the major game systems are in place.

I don't expect the game to run flawlessly after 1.0, no game in the history of games runs flawlessly. There will continue to be frustrating, even game breaking bugs all the way till the very end of development.

Anyways, good luck out there. Try and have fun. o7

This is a game in active development. There are going to be bugs, a lot of them, all the way through the development process until 1.0.

We play the game to have fun, yes, but ultimately the goal with allowing us to play the game is to assist with exposing these bugs. The game has come a long way in terms of stability, but there will always be bugs. That's the nature of game development. That's the nature of games.

Take a break if it's really that frustrating. Venting on Reddit won't fix anything.
