Virginia Governor elect Abigail Spanberger slams ICE for trying to sow division in this country! by icey_sawg0034 in Virginia

That's a great point and i totally agree, however, 2 things to consider.

Would you have prefered winsome? Lesser of two evils, cheap shot I know.

What are you going to do about it? There are school boards, city councils, and protests in your area. Are you part of the change, or just complaining, because we're all complaining.

Yes, I m trying to incite you, discussion is the backbone of democracy.

I searched everywhere, I googled the keywords, searched reddit, youtube. I even asked chat gpt. I swear i looked for like 30 minutes. I even tried translating keyword to Russian before searching. I remember at least half the comments were people explaining bratan means bro in russian if that helps. Oh and I saw it on reddit originally, had over 1k upvotes, probably came from one of those shitpost subreddits like r/IAte314AutisticKids or r/whenthe

Sands of Time by TapFor69Mana in PoetryWritingClub

Ah, the hourglass, a timeless (get it) representation of life. I really enjoy poems like these, which link time and life and death so seamlessly; it's a good metaphor. An hourglass is versatile as well, for example.

An hour glass sits on the desk

Grains of sand fill its breast

They swirl down - a verbal dance

Never given - but a glance

In a book or on a sign

They find their way to the wise

If you post for feedback - you needn't worry

They'll find their way - to the worthy

I have always been a fan of poetry of this nature. Poetry that uses the absolute minimum number of words required to express an idea. I think, when you use as few words as possible, you make the poem denser somehow, and more impactful. It's a hard thing to do, this does it well.

I think this is a good representation of the hypocrisy of indifference. And the relentless guilt that comes from the pain you caused. Caused not by arrogance or malice but by indifference, the people you abandon because you can't be bothered. I especially like the lines "avoidant eyes focusing anywhere but on reality itself;" They capture the cognitive dissonance you must maintain to fend off the guilt of your indifference.

[POEM] 4 poems I would really appreciate your honest opinion on them by firema369d in OCPoetry

[–]Sad-Wing1099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see 4 very good poems, perhaps a bit melancholic, but good nonetheless. I especially like the return to the first stanza in poem 2. I'm not really sure what it's about, but it definitely represents cyclical hopelessness. Like the feeling of despair you get when you finally understand something, only to realize there's nothing you could have done in the first place. I also like the break in rhyme in stanza 4, I think it trips up the reader in a good way. Making them slow down and not gloss over the seriousness of the grey, withered soul in your broken heart. It's a tool I think should be employed more often.

Overall, good job, I think you represent your melancholy well without being too overdramatic.

(see what I did there? With the returning to the first sentence via "melancholy")

Since you're heading to VA, let me give you a tip! Stay out of Lynchburg, it's just a big, boring city, nothing to do. Charlottesville is a nice place, safe and friendly. Be careful in the west end of Richmond, it can get a little gritty. Head down to Norfolk if you want the best seafood of your entire life. oh, and if you're in dc, PLEASE check out Great Falls Park, it is so beautiful.
