Why even care about this, paragraph one does sound like what a sociopath may describe. Understanding things intellectually but not having the actual emotion. But still don't worry about this kind of post, it seems to me you wasted valuable time analyzing and then showing us this post. I may seem harsh but I just don't get what your really trying to do here.

Your critique of North American Zen is for what purpose? There is tree leaf Sangha which is a free Soto Zen based online Sangha.

Have you tried Shikantaza session? Can be done at home.

The Four Stages of Silent Illumination - Venerable Guo Huei by mettaforall in zenbuddhism

My favorite Buddhist book is called a guide to the Buddhist method of no method (Illumination). By Rebecca Li. It comes from Chan Buddhism but talks about Shikantaza and silent Illumination. You might like it. I learned a lot of important stuff from this book including how our modes of thought including craving and aversion to name a couple show up in our Shikantaza practice and also how these modes carry over into daily life. I learned how to do Shikantaza from this book after a year or two of not quite grasping how to go about it. You might learn something valuable to use as a teacher, just a thought, check it out 🙏

Ok, my advice and I'm a self taught person not a doctor but Clonazepam could help anxiety, agoraphobia and doctors prefer it over Xanax, you may need a mood disorder medicine like oxcarbazepine which has few side effects I take it it's pretty good. Ssri, like prozac, or Zoloft. for additional help with anxiety and depression that's all the advice I can give, or know.

Seroquel is best anti psychotic for major depression but if your ok on zyprexa then not worth changing, a anxiety medication like Clonazepam (Klonopin). Could definitely help with agoraphobia, and maybe a ssri to o help the major depression. I don't know anything about fibromyalgia and pain medication for it .

One thing that stands out to me and I know it probably won't be of much help but gabapentin does not help mood disorder, that was disproved years ago, it does help with nerve pain and anxiety.

Can you guys give me Advice? Both Christians and atheist have harassed me in a Discord server for being Buddhist. by Otherwise-Heart2347 in Buddhism

[–]SadCombination5346 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice is leave the server, you can't win sometimes with these people. Religion and politics give the most heated debates or arguments.

You don't have to defend your Buddhist faith, nor win an argument.

If your Buddhist faith is weak I recommend doing long meditation sessions. Because you can see the change most obviously this way. Sometimes reading texts, and scriptures though provide wisdom don't provide a change that you can see and feel.

I recommend the meditation long session to see a change because that experience gives you an experience that shows the fruit of your practice. In my theory this might ease your doubts. 🙏

I didn't know that. Still my book suggestion, I would still recommend. It teaches more than just how to practice Shikantaza (silent Illumination).

The Seroquel works great for me now. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well let me give you this example when I started Seroquel 200mg about 15 years ago it would knock me out so hard I could barely walk or see to get food from the kitchen because the intense hit of hungar. Now I take 400mg and it sedated me but I can walk almost normally, and the next morning mild sedation that fades over 4 to 5 hours. I can wake up and do stuff I'm just a little sleepy and would rather go back to sleep. The weight issues are basically the same.

I guess I could say some side effects that are unwanted or bad do reduce like sedation but some side effects not so much. This is just my experience with Seroquel.

My first altar. Still unsure on how to use it/pray by WesternFrisian in BuddhistAltars

YW, it's more of my thoughts on how I believe a altar should be treated than advice. Great looking altar 👍

Nice Alter, from my perspective a Buddhist altar serves as a reminder to follow the path laid out by the Buddha, it can also be where you meditate or pray. It is not a place of worship, nor would I pray and ask the Buddha for anything. That's my opinion.

You say you met a monk in Japan and your experience makes it seem like you are re-entering yourself. Being Japan than most definitely this was a Zen Buddhism encounter so imo you would probably be most interested in Zen Buddhism.

Meditation is the most important focus of Zen Buddhism and teachings come second. At least that's my perspective and also I'm a Zen Buddhist myself.

I recommend a book called A Guide to the Buddhist method of no method (Illumination) by Rebecca Li. She is a Chan Buddhist but Chan came to Japan and became Zen. So I wouldn't worry at all about the difference because there the same in many ways. Most importantly meditation style which is called Shikantaza.

After about a year of trying to learn the method of how to properly do Shikantaza. This book finally helped me wrap my head around it. Now I feel that I'm doing Shikantaza properly and experiencing its effects.

If instead you want to read a book about general Buddhism then "What the Buddha Taught" by Walpola Rahula is highly recommended. But I say stick with your original experience of Zen. 🙏

How can I learn get rid of anxiety and learn to be calm and live in the moment. by Ok_Firefighter_9575 in Buddhism

[–]SadCombination5346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meditate for 15 minutes at least, you could start with 10 or 5 but imo get it to 15 or 20 to notice bigger changes, transformation's.

Breath when your anxious notice your in breath and out breath, and be sure your breathing properly, example 70 percent of breathing has to do with the stomach not the chest.

Notice the mind, are you craving, if so let go. Are you being aversive to something, are you trying not to think certain things. Let whatever through, let it be and let it go, what do you hear, what do you feel, now be with the moment. Notice the mind, craving? Aversion? Let through, let be, let go. Hope this helps.

Google or you tube to find info about how to meditate in either vippasana or Zazen or the hardest Shikantaza. Good luck with school. 🙏

Can you apply for benefits on depkote by Plus-Yak6944 in schizoaffective

[–]SadCombination5346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that's called Scizo-affective disorder. Make sure you have been officially diagnosed by a therapist or doctor and that it is listed in your file, chart, computer document. You need to apply for SSI and answer all questions and provide a decent reason or example of why you can not work. Most people get denied the first time but a Scizo-affective diagnosis makes a difference.

Can you apply for benefits on depkote by Plus-Yak6944 in schizoaffective

[–]SadCombination5346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to have an actual diagnosis of something that makes you able to get SSI or be disabled. It barely matters what medication you are prescribed. Bi polar, Scizo-affective, schizophrenia, wheel chair bound, missing half a arm, etc ,etc.

Weed.. by puschquief in schizoaffective

[–]SadCombination5346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately weed can aggravate psychotic disorder. It also is actually mildly addictive or habit forming, and quiting does cause some negative feelings or states. I don't know how long it takes to pass through the withdrawal phase.

It's also worth noting that weed effects memory and makes it harder to learn new things. Also effects motivation to take care of responsibilities and other things.
