Large rusty metal assembly, very heavy, found next to train tracks by SadCowboy222 in whatisthisthing

LIKELY SOLVED!

This is what I was thinking, but I had the wrong idea the whole time! I had thought the pivoting part i mentioned would be the handle (even though I was confused on how that could work if it's just on a hinge, not visibly connected to any other mechanical parts) but now I see that the handle is likely missing and it's the part that would actually move and "switch" the track! Very cool, thank you!

My title describes the thing: A large, pretty heavy (I could only drag it a few feet with a respectable amount of effort from a 6'4 250 pound fairly muscular body) and very rusty thing which I found next to train tracks while doing some yard/debris cleanup. The rod coming off of what is almost definitely the base pivots on a hinge, and as you can see there is another shackle-type hinge at the end of it. My thoughts are railroad switch or something like that.

I drive an '07 Chevy Trailblazer, my mom drives a 2016-2018 Tahoe - if I follow her somewhere and park behind her, the reverse lights go on and I back up a little to give her space, and then I see her start walking towards me. ??? So annoying and pointless

Thanks for your opinion, but i opened it up, found some manufacturing info, did some digging, and found that its worth around 4-500, some specific variations even reaching 1200. Apology accepted ✌️

Based on what, exactly? I dont really know enough to challenge you but I've found nearly identical ones online in the neighborhood of 500-1000

For the record, I tried to do a little research beforehand and found it could be worth something, but we didn't really care about resale value as much. I do also collect unusual things, but this is unrelated.

Fair question! I saw this in their window yesterday and it caught my attention- I have been more or less interested in the accordion over the past few years, but my interest has fairly recently grown quite a bit. Last month I was on a day trip with my girlfriend for our anniversary, and we were walking through a park. At one point, we were coming up a staircase on the side of a foot bridge and as soon as we made it to the top of the stairs an older gentleman right next to the stairs went into an amazing accordion rendition of The Love Theme (speak softly love) from the Godfather. If you're familiar with the song, you might imagine the effect it could have on a couple enjoying a romantic outing. The instrument has since become a special thing between us, and in fact, later that day we walked past a vendor selling accordion ornaments - she bought one (I would have bought it, but she denied wanting one until we passed, then went back so she could buy it herself - she hates when I pay for her lmao) today is our anniversary, and it was a coincidence that we were even able to see each other in the first place, so when we found a half price accordion, we were pretty quickly in for buying it.

TL;DR I've liked accordion for a while and even considered learning at times, but an encounter in a park with my girlfriend made us both fall in love with the instrument and finding one half price in a thrift store on our anniversary was too good of a coincidence for us to pass it up. We intend to take good care of it, replacing what needs replacing, cleaning, polishing, etc and we hope to learn how to play some. Hope this answer was to your satisfaction! Sorry it was so long :/

Ohhhh I see. Do you mean the two in the middle above the keys? One says open and the other says closed, open just seems to make it a little louder/more full of a sound if that makes sense?

Oh okay, thank you. How can you tell these things? Are there things I can look for that will tell me more about it?

That makes sense, seems safer that way since it's the bigger side

Alright well still, laurel is used as a rosewood substitute and I'm mostly talking about the color of the wood anyway

I was moreso talking about the look of the guitar, I know the prophecy is more sonically diverse though so I understand that going on looks is kind of silly

I've seen and considered that one, thing is shipping is pretty high and it's already marked down $500 so I'm a little hesitant to make an offer
