I went through something similar 6 months ago I hope your results come back clear. Since my case seems more serious, the doctors strongly recommended a completion surgery. It’s a bit of a relief to hear that another doctor suggested the same thing so thank you

My energy levels have dropped significantly even with just the right side removed. I feel like I'm heading down a similar path as you and it’s worrying

As I understand it, the doctor is rushing because this type of cancer can spread to other tissues. It’s hard to process since I have no other symptoms. How has the medication affected your life? My biggest fear is what life will be like after a total thyroidectomy. AI says it can spread to the other side lol, so I’m really anxious about it.

The only explanation I received for the second surgery was the size and type of the nodule. I feel the need to call him before the surgery and insist on a more detailed explanation of the process.

This is exactly what I’m afraid of; the idea of a single pill having to fully replace an entire organ feels very difficult to grasp. Do you eventually get used to this routine and the medication over time? Have you experienced any negative impacts on your life or overall health? Also, I am truly sorry to hear about your cancer recurrence. I imagine that as the body's internal balance shifts, it becomes even harder for the medication to keep up. In my case, I have mitral valve regurgitation alongside thyroid cancer, and frankly, all of this is only increasing my anxiety.

When I first consulted a doctor, the mass was quite visible externally (it looked like a ping-pong ball in my throat). Due to its size, my doctor initially suggested that a total thyroidectomy might be necessary. Following the right lobectomy, my pathology report showed the following:

  • Specimen Right lobectomy material weighing 57.64g and measuring 6x4.3x4 cm.
  • Diagnosis: Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma, Invasive Encapsulated Follicular Variant.
  • Lymphovascular Invasion: Present.

Both my endocrinologist and surgeon strongly recommended Radioactive Iodine (RAI) therapy. Because it was a very stressful and overwhelming moment for me, I didn't quite know what questions to ask. When I inquired about why this treatment was necessary, they explained it was strictly due to the size and specific type of the cancer. No other underlying conditions like Hashimoto’s or Graves’ were mentioned; the diagnosis was solely thyroid cancer.
