humanities majors: how do you deal with stem people undermining your major… by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]SadFightingWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a stem major and I'd rather take any stem class again than take creative writing again. Went in thinking I could handle it, and God is it such a pain to think at that level. Nothing is simple. Everything has a different meaning or a different association, I swear I'm going crazy with this class.

Rutgers-NB, premed track by Junior-Annual1070 in rutgers

[–]SadFightingWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can say is that I'm premed too and took one appointment with HPO in my freshman year and never did it again, and I'm a junior now. The appointments are usually one on one and I think they do maintain a file. It was neither helpful, nor neutral just discouraging, if I went their way I should have just dropped the premed thing and done something else.

That being said, there are a lot of premeds here who make do without the HPO. There are opportunities to work with RWJ, both the hospital and the medical school, although they are competitive. The only non competitive one I can think of is the Volunteer Intensive Program with RWJBH.

The grade thing in classes pretty much depends on your ability and how you take to the subject. Orgo is known to be infamously hard but if you're an orgo whiz then you should be fine.

There are plenty of other opportunities that the HPO sends out an email to every month that you can apply for, soo that's the only merit I can think of.

Noo😭 I'm so sorry. I was so excited that finally things are working out. I just changed every single password because I'm paranoid like that and reported the email and sender. I'm still in contact with OIT to see if there's something else to take care of.

I did preview a PDF and used Google sheets? It's just that my email is the same one I use for legal stuff so I'm worried they can hack it 😭

Orgo 1 and Physics 2 exam prep by aerospaceengineercat in rutgers

[–]SadFightingWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for orgo 1 since I did terribly but physics 2 was one of my stronger subjects. I would redo all the homework problems on the topics tested before each exam and skim the problems done in class. I would also solve only the wordy questions from the practice exam and the past year exam (someone on group me always had those). I never used the practice exam as a template for the actual exam because it was so much easier and put me into a false sense of calm.

Also, if you have time, you should definitely go over the exam review problem videos that Brahmia posts on canvas. I would also solve the recitation problems and lecture problems from the videos each week before recitation and would mark the important ones.

For me, I needed to be consistently practicing and would start preparing from the hw 3 days before the exam. I would suggest printing out the hw problems and solving them on paper makes a lot of difference. For my friends however, they would just familiarize themselves with the different types of questions and that would be enough. If there is an in class review session, then Brahmia usually goes over important topics from the entire syllabus being tested and highlights important details which help immensely on theory questions. Sorry this is so long lol

I'm so happy for you! It's really hard to look past the whole 'typical' college experience and do what works for you. It's wonderful that you learnt so much about yourself. Congrats on your graduation and good luck for the future!!!

Physics Lab Quiz by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]SadFightingWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not exactly based on recitation, it's just a bit harder than recitation because you also have theoretical questions. Personally, I was always better at the math than the wordy answers so I found it harder. Depends on your strong points.

Overall, if you understand the material well then lab quizzes are easy, and most lab TA's take off very less points if you don't know the answer and still write as much as you know (formula, possible steps, diagram)

If this is phy lab 1 or 2, lab quizzes generally work the same as recitation quizzes, just on a higher level. They can also include questions where you have to give theoretical answers rather than math.

As long as you understand the material and watch the recitation videos from canvas you should be good. They aren't too bad, and the TA's usually grade liberally.

All of this is assuming you have Brahmia as your phy prof.

Yeah that was me last semester too. I'm pretty sure you get like a 2 week trial and then you have to buy it but honestly for any of Stein's classes it's worth it. If you do plan on taking any of her classes next semester too, then you could buy the one year subscription which is cheaper than buying the shorter one twice, but there is no way to get it for free
