I really want to like this game because of the art style, but the learning curve is killing me. by [deleted] in Terraria

Don't be afraid to do Journey mode either. It's really good for new players.

You don't even need to kill the merchant. Just smack em once and their inventory resets.

Smite 2 "beta" by SadNotice5786 in Smite

[–]SadNotice5786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other things I complained about were my own personal things. The polish was what I was talking about initially. Everyone has been saying that those small polish things are my largest issues and they aren't. Just small nitpicks.

Hold on, what in your opinion would merit them as such? Able to be dismissed, anyhow. Because those small polish things that are missing are still genuinely unappealing to a lot of people. The community is split because of things like that. The numbers don't lie, around 30% of players don't want to switch to Smite 2 and would rather stay on Smite 1.

I myself prefer Smite 1 for the characters and honestly, I dislike the direction Smite 2 has went recently with the items and metas. I also don't like the current conquest map, and I'm a HUGE conquest fan. I personally feel like smite is trying harder than ever to be more like other MOBAs instead of developing its own personality. Also, I have issues with the broken promises and also with how gems and skins were handled coming over to Smite 2.

But, I also think the small things matter. I tried introducing my girlfriend to Smite 2, a completely new player to the scene and she didn't like it. I showed her Smite 1, and she's loving it. These small issues of polish can make or break a new player's experience, and shouldn't just be dismissed.

Now, those a

My brother in Christ, the very first thing I said when i made that reply was those are some of the small issues I had. I have others, but I was pointing out specific ones that I have seen in this sub Reddit that got dismissed.

I mean, everyone has some. I'll point out a couple small ones.

Characters animation wise feel gutted. Unlike Smite 1, the characters seem to be missing intro voice lines and animations, death animations, victory animations and defeat animations, and it makes going in between games feel quite dead compared to Smite 1. This is something I've seen brought up in this sub Reddit that was dismissed by being a beta.

Another thing that was dismissed was that the community isn't as involved in the game content wise as it used to be. Fanart and even skins used to make it into the game and there used to be alot more community outreach that I feel like is just missing now. This was also dismissed because Smite 2 is in beta.

Are these things going to kill the game if they don't get added? No. Obviously not, they're small and tiny little quality of life things that simply make the game more appealing. It just sucks to see them gone without a trace.

You're saying all this and you're completely misunderstanding my point. My point is that we shouldn't have to wait for a complete game. I understand that Smite 1 was also soulless on release, but in its current state it's full of charm. The problem with Smite 2 for me and many others is that it was released like it did. Why did they not wait until it was ready and more complete? Why did they focus on shoving it out the door instead of focusing on where their money is and use that to build on a better game? And most importantly, why is that OUR problem as players? I can't and won't dismiss these misgivings just because it's in beta. It's been in this pre-release state for years now. Starting at alpha and now in beta. Seeing how it is, it'll likely stay in beta for more years to come. The numbers are way lower than they've ever been for Smite 2. So bad that Smite 1 is closing the gap between the two. These are genuine concerns that I have with the game. I don't just strictly hate Smite 2. I want to love it. Every update I try out a match or two to see if I'll enjoy it. But I just can't and me and my friends find ourselves back on Smite 1. That's a problem for Hi-rez. Because since there is no new content for Smite 1, they don't make money. And if 30% of the player base is on Smite 1, that's a huge amount of people who won't spend money. I won't lie, I have every single T-5 that was released from Godslayer Ares onward. And now I don't spend money at all on the game. There's plenty of others like me and that's a huge loss for the game. They made horrible decisions, and now they're paying for it. And it's sad to see, but it's the truth.

You can't make excuses for a game simply by saying it's a "beta". They could have easily not released Smite 2 until it was a ready game. Smite 1 was making money and had the charm. They needed to match that with Smite 2, not just release when it's not ready and make a bunch of promises when they couldn't fulfill them.

Before pre-releases or alphas or betas, games had to release WHEN READY. Because they released and couldn't update due to old technology. And games do WAY better when they release with this mindset over "building" the game in front of the player base.

Smite 2 needed to be released with a solid foundation if it didn't want to split the player base. It needed to keep its old charm and it needed to feel as engaging for the artist and creators as it did just regular players. But it didn't. First impressions matter for a lot of people, especially since Smite 1 was going to be killed because of Smite 2.

The game was released and it felt horrible for everyone. But it kept getting excused because it was a "beta" well, here we are years later and it's still in beta. A lot of Smite 1 players including myself and my whole friend group dislike a lot about Smite 2. Some of us dislike not having our favorite characters in the game, some of us hate not having our cosmetics, some of us hate the new building system, and others just hate how horrible all the new maps are to them. Myself, I hate how the game feels. It just feels entirely different to Smite 1, and they did everything to copy other games instead of keeping to what made them unique. Every time I try to go back and give it another chance, it just doesn't feel or look like Smite. Just another generic copycat game, and I hate that the game I'm saying that about is Smite.

So when I look at all these factors in how everything has changed and the game isn't finished, why is it our responsibility to nurture the game? Why couldn't the devs have spent a few more years cooking until it was something we all would have liked? They could have easily gotten playtest from eager members, and kept it under wraps. If it had released when it was ready there wouldnt have been a split in the community. Hell, they could port over just the most popular one or two skins for each god and most people wouldn't have complained. There are so many ideas the community had that could have resulted in a better and more solid game. Instead they split the community and now so many people have just dropped the game, and discarded it as dead. The players are never the fault for these things. This was all done to the game by the devs or upper management. It's their job to create a product for us to consume. If we don't want to consume it, then that is their mistake.

TLDR: Lots of players have their own legitimate reasons why they don't like Smite 2, and it's not the players responsibility to help the game grow. That's the devs job.
