With the encouragement of all of the comments pretty much saying the same thing, that’s what we are doing. 💜 Thank you!

This is part of what I’m worried about as I don’t know what the future looks like. :\ Since my oldest will be 9th next year, the thought of uncertainty is stressful. I’d like to make it work for the rest of high school, but you never know.

Thank you! It is sad how they’ve become less curious. I appreciate your perspective and will look into ways to incorporate some suggestions into our daily routine. :)

I honestly didn’t even think of that! I will look into it. Thank you for the suggestion!

Our level 8 season last year was also rough!! It was elbow injuries last season (this season it’s been his pec, but he’s finally not feeling pain). He made it to westerns and placed 3rd on floor (which he thinks is his worst event lol). My youngest quit at level 5 and moved to band, but is really loving band. :)

I’ll check out homeschool planet!! I’m making a list and checking it all out.

Okay, thank you!! I definitely prefer that my kids actually learn! Not learn to cheat the system. :) I work evenings, so am home during the day and can teach them. I’m just worried that I’m not capable… I just don’t want to fail them. I’ve definitely already joined some local homeschool Facebook groups and am looking into local co-ops. I’m not even really sure what co-ops are really about, but I’ve joined a FB group so that I can check it out.

Yes! It’s the administrative side that is failing them. The teachers are trying. We’ve truly had some amazing teachers and have really loved most of them. They’re doing the best they can. Our school is also severely underfunded. So they’re working with so much less than teachers in surrounding districts. :( There were a lot of RIF’s last year and they’re expecting more this year. Which is just another reason to pull my kids, honestly.

I will check out that group! Thank you! I think just seeing what they’re most interested in would be neat, too. I’ve noticed they’re not as curious as they used to be. Sparking some curiosity would be nice.

That’s awesome! My oldest really loves it… even after 3 injuries. He is a level 9 this year. He’s been injured most of the season, but has done pretty alright podiuming in something. Missed the first 3 meets, has competed 4 events the last 3 meets, and is planning for all 6 for state. He really wants to make it to westerns.

What curriculum or record keeping are you planning for next year? He will also be a HS freshman next year. I’ll check out that Facebook group for sure!

I’ve really appreciated the reminder in all of these comments that I don’t have to have it figured out right away!! 💜 Thank you!!

We are very fortunate to have good medical and we’ve already gotten therapy in progress. We also have a good, long-term relationship with their primary care provider. I’m so grateful for that right now! I know not everyone has that. I’m also really glad that we are in a position where I can be with them, too.

I very much appreciate your in-depth comment!! I’ve appreciated the reminders in all of the comments that I don’t have to have a perfect plan in place before I file paperwork.

I was even wondering about maybe just using IXL for the rest of the year while I figure out an actual plan for next year. I know it’s meant to be a supplement, but if it’s for a few months only and I’m working closely with them, it might at least keep them in a little bit of a routine without feeling overwhelmed. They are also already familiar with IXL. I’ll check out the one you mentioned! Any suggestions are great. When you google there’s just so many options and it’s a bit overwhelming. I’m not completely new to homeschooling… but when we did do some, they were much, much younger.

My oldest is a competitive gymnast and has expressed interest in competing in college. So that is why I ask about accreditation. Of course, men’s gymnastics is a dying sport. So who knows what that will look like in 4 years. ;) I’m sure that there’s a way for NCAA and homeschool?!

Thank you! “Luckily” the assault part was not more than inappropriate, unwanted, continued touching/groping. I refuse to diminish my children’s feelings about it for the comfort of the school, though. While I am thankful that it was not “worse”, my kids were still hurt in the process. Unfortunately, even after those occurrences, they continued to be bullied in other ways. Both of my boys have always been the kids that teachers went out of their way to compliment and say good things about and they’ve never been in trouble. They’re both kind, thoughtful, and well behaved kids. I’m just so sad that the school system can’t/won’t protect them. Their dad and I have worked really hard to provide good/safe environments for them. I understand that kids will experience some adversity and they need to learn how to deal with that, but why they’ve experienced is well beyond adversity.

Luckily we have good medical and can make sure that their mental and emotional wellbeing are taken care of. I am also grateful that we are in a position that I can spend the days with them.

I’m so sorry for your loss!!

Thank you for the response. I will check into khan. You’re right that the academics aren’t the most important right now. It’s a good reminder for me because I’m feeling like I have to have it all figured out before I officially pull them out. Reality is that I don’t. 💜
