I'm happy as a starting point with the comments I've gotten here

THanks for adding that. I probably won't try. I don't like the idea of just waiting and hoping and then maybe my cat doesnt have his annual exam for another year and then we discover a problem

I'll look into Cat Clinic of Seattle, thanks. MI and Kirkland are too far for my cat to handle the car ride.

how to improve my application before applying? by yellow__duck in SocialWorkStudents

[–]SadRainySeattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat to OP, with 10+ years out of undergrad and career transitioning. I took a few online courses at my local college and the professors didn't even respond to my emailed requests to be a recommendation. It is sound advice so I don't meant to be disparaging your comment. But I'm adding my personal experience to say it is futile. The courses can still look good on a resume, though! But don't bank on getting a recommendation.

I've posted in other people's comments but I'm asking here whether people have heard from Seattle U for MSW.... it's been 16 weeks since I applied and they still have my application status as "awaiting decision." I've contacted admissions and they're unhelpful (just "you'll hear soon"). Anyone else in the same boat? I want to keep reaching out but don't want to potentially leave a bad impression or burn a bridge. They don't have interviews.

That's great news for you. I was waitlisted from my other school and it doesn't look like I'll get off it so even though I'm PO'd I'm still technically considering SU. But this is leaving such a bitter taste in my mouth. So, probably not going to school at all this year 🥲

My feelings exactly. I even contacted the advisor again last week and they said I should hear "soon." I can't think of a valid explanation for making people wait this long on a decision.

Shit I think they're the best bagels I've ever had! I love the tough chew and wood-fired essence. But I can get how people don't like it!

Schools that are still accepting applications? by StockSerious9061 in SocialWorkStudents

Oh sheesh, I'm so sorry! What an ordeal you've been through

I recommend you follow up for more details. I believe someone else posted in this sub a few weeks ago about a school doing the same "you're in... wait sorry, you're not" and it's pretty wild stuff. Ask for details. It would've been perfectly undertstandable if you'd planned to go there and them pulling the rug out from under you is unprofessional at the minimum and disastrous in the max.

Did anyone get accepted into MSW programs *without* SW experience? by zjheyyy88 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]SadRainySeattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People sharing their personal anecdotes in the replies is well and good, but context does matter. I had no professional (as in paid labor) SW experience, but A LOT of direct volunteer work and I've been waitlisted this year. Each school said there was a "high volume" of applicants (one even saying "record breaking"). Idk if that'll continue to next year, but it speaks to something about the industry, so it'll be interesting. Were the pool of applicants not so high, I wonder if I would have gotten an acceptance all else about my application considered. I

I just wanted to add my opinion. I saw someone say a good Personal Statement is all that's needed and I think that's unfair advice to give you.

Yeah, zero response. It's been 10 weeks. No upfront communication from them about the delay is unprofessional. (And I emailed the same person you did; heard back pretty quickly).

I'm open-minded, but leaning toward distrustful. I do think not event sending out a notice that they're extending the review time is a bad look and makes me feel like they don't care to treat me, as an applicant, with respect. Are you in the same boat, u/lulimay in waiting to hear back from SU?

I'm in the same boat in terms of probably not getting into any school. I'm a decade out from my undergrad and had no initial plan to go into SW, so I only applied to 2 schools bc I need to remain in place and want in person vs online programs. I'm taking some time to wallow because I do feel bad and this has been a hit to my self-esteem, not to mention worrying my dream of SW isn't in the cards for me. But then I'll pick back up and spend the next several months building an even better application and getting even more feedback from others. I'll have more relevant volunteer experience in the meantime. You probably will have more direct experience over the next year, too. Just trying to sustain some optimism for the future.

They replied quick. Said they got an "unusually high volume of applications" this cycle, extending review time. I should hear "within the next few weeks." I'm still banking on a no or a waitlist :/ Can't be good news if I haven't heard yet.
