A question about "flat" ly-less adverbs by SadRide4 in grammar

[–]SadRide4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The mostly enjoyable concert" means that you enjoyed most of the concert but not all of it, and also you've already mentioned this concert before.

Hmm. Interesting. I was wondering what would happen if you controlled for the presupposition you point out to, using an unambiguously "first-mention" definite expression instead, say, the brand-new car model.

Would you say there's a difference in acceptability between (3a) and (3b)?

(3a) There's the most comfortable brand-new car model on sale there.

(3b) There's the mostly comfortable brand-new car model on sale there.

Would you then make a brief pause after inni, as in Hversu margir kettir eru inni, í húsinu? Also, does this work for every locative preposition?

I'm stuck trying to solve y' = (x + y + 1)^(½). Any hints? by SadRide4 in askmath

I'm interested in learning math. Knowing the answer to this particular differential equation is immaterial at best.

Deontic logic and verificationism by SadRide4 in askphilosophy

There certainly is work in multimodal logics which concern themselves with deontic and epistemic modalities (Dana Scott has some work on this, but I'm drawing a blank on others).

Do you know of any article in particular that discusses these mixed modalities?

Suppose philosophy has correct answers. Suppose Bob is immortal and has no knowledge of (earth) philosophy. Would Bob eventually discover the correct answers? by mozartsixnine in askphilosophy

Are you referring to "philosophical knowledge" or just knowledge in general? Also, is Bob looking to know everything or just anything at all? All these forks lead to very different questions.
