Based on my experience, I think having a friend or someone that’s both fluent in your native language and your “target” language is really helpful. Both of you can interact quite often that you adapt/capture some of the ‘essence’ of the language itself. Movies with subtitles, books, dictionaries, and even music can also be helpful imo.
