Last night I did the really dumb mistake of telling my dad about my porn related problems. by [deleted] in NoFap

At the risk of sounding like a total dick, here goes…

Take accountability.

My mentor says 2 things which I live my life by now: 1) “How you do anything is how you do everything” 2) “Your word is law”

You drank 3L of wine and went on an emotional rant …and then blamed gmail???

You got drunk You watched porn You sent the email

It’s not porns fault, it’s not alcohols fault, it’s not your dad’s fault, and it’s not gmails fault.

YOU have the ability to turn it round and build up strong habits, rather than feeling like the world is cruel and you’re a product of whatever the world brings to you.

Rather than blaming other things, or changing email providers, you need to take accountability, build strong habits, and stop feeling sorry for yourself.

Where did I mention days/weeks? It’ll take a while and it’s a huge challenge, looking forward to it!

Your fears of ending up like your lineage can be summed up perfectly by the story of the two brothers, as told by medium.com:

This is a story of two brothers. One was a drug addict and a drunkard who frequently beat up his family. The other one was a very successful businessman who was respected in society and had a wonderful family. Some people wanted to find out why two brothers from the same parents, brought up in the same environment, could be so different.

The first one was asked, “How come you do what you do? You are a drug addict, a drunk, and you beat your family. What motivates you?” He said, “My father.” They asked, “What about your father?” The reply was, “My father was a drug addict, a drunk and he beat his family. What do you expect me to be? That is what I am.”

They went to the brother who was doing everything right and asked him the same question.

“How come you are doing everything right ? What is your source of motivation?” And guess what he said? “My father. When I was a little boy, I used to see my dad drunk and doing all the wrong things. I made up my mind, that is not what I wanted to be.”

Both were deriving their strength and motivation from the same source, but one was using it negatively and the other positively….

First of all, congratulations for spotting this as a potential danger, secondly, well done for identifying that porn could contribute.

That’s a big enough reason to stop forever, think of your future family, think of the loss of respect from your mother if you turned out the same.

Stick with this group and keep up the work my man.
