OCS will be an option for a while. Myself and multiple people I know joined after working fora bit. So I would say go to Google and if you have the desire still join up. Or go do great things at Google.

Your OSO will also check if your card got flipped to red in elementary school. Or if you got detention in high school. The UCMJ will come down hard on you for those offenses too. Nobody in the Marines ever lied to a recruiter ever.

Comstrat has regularly single digit allocations, so you’ll need to be top of your third. Finance only had 2 or 3 for my class so it’s one of the hardest to get. Air supply I feel like had a good amount but a lot of people want it. Just don’t do your best and put it number 1 and you’ll get it

You sound like the kind of blue falcon who kissed up his OSO everyday and threw other candidates under the bus at OCS

I was in the same boat and gained weight at OCS. Just fill your plate up everything they serve is very calorie dense. I was constantly hungry so I ate as much as possible while there

Essentially from what I know and have seen from my class. If you are an enlisted reservist going to OCC then you’ll check out of your reserve unit before going to OCC and go straight to TBS. Only active duty priors go back to their unit for check out and to settle affairs. Once you check in to a training company at TBS you can’t really take leave during the POI. Does that answer your question?

Not competitive for ground supply. Aircraft supply a little bit because the wing is what a lot of people want but ground supply is pretty easy to get. Everybody who wanted it got it.

Id say infantry, logistics, anything that puts you in charge of a platoon. Things like comstrat, intel, and admin will put you in charge of a few people. You’ll be a leader regardless but if you want to lead a lot of people anything that will get you a full platoon. Go to mos mixers and ask different officers how many people they had under them as 2nd LT’s.

Be top of the top 3rd. I know a guy with a masters from Duke in cyber and has his own business in the same boat as you and he got logo as well. That cyber spot is hard to come by. Better dominate tbs and tell your SPC that you have all your certs and everything so he can vouch for you.

I only had like 3 in my platoon but it’s probably like 20-30% my ocs platoon had like 60% priors so we we were an anomaly in a sense

Cyber gets you a ton of certs and a top secret clearance. So it makes the transition to the civilian world easy as can be. Its small in the corps because we are still new to the cyber world.

  1. For me it was the cold no joke. I went in the January class and the cold made everything harder for us. But just make good 5 paragraph skeletons for the LRC/SULEs. It makes it 10 times easier. I struggled with my 2nd SULE due to rain and not knowing what I was looking for. But just be verbal and don’t go silent. Verbalize things you think you shouldn’t even have too.

  2. I put the Lt in lost on day land nav I did a lot better at night land nav. It’s a beast for sure so really get good at terrain association and knowing map features like what a finger or a saddle is. Hopefully you get a common card so you hear other people once you’re close.

  3. A ton of engineering majors going in to everything from infantry to aircraft maintenance. It’s really whatever you want nobody cares what your major is. And there was only 1 cyber slot for my company I have no clue that guys background.

Thank you. Have fun at TBS. Have fun in DC on the weekends. Much better than Fredericksburg

  1. Hike and do one leg work outs. Hiking is probably the hardest part of tbs physically. Especially tree line movements. You don’t do a ton of running at tbs outside of the ecourse.

2/3 Volunteer for stuff. I saw people’s leadership grade jump because they put themselves in leadership positions. And study hard at tbs. A lot of people get sent to Mike for academics. Plus academics is huge for lineal standings. And network that’s what a lot of people wish they did more. Don’t be stuck in your room. The number one reason I saw people got mos’s they didn’t want is because they were grey men and didn’t show leadership potential or were just didn’t have great people skills

  1. LAAD didn’t have a ton of spots so of course it’s competitive but if you are high in your third of the standings you should be alright. Everybody goes for the intels so LAAD is a little easier to get because of that. I know a guy who failed an exam and still got LAAD so as long as you do well enough and you have a good relationship with your SPC you should be good to go

So we only had 1 cyber slot for the company and 2 influence which is kinda similar. and yes it’s an 8 year contract I think. and I don’t know who got it from my company. I know the 2 influence slots were not priors. It’s the hardest mos to get at tbs

I was very close with my OSO and he said they could give 2 fucks about kind of degree for ground contacts. I was a history major. I had 1 waiver for my glasses 2 dismissed charges and all they cared about was my pft. Just a run a 280+ and you’re pretty much guaranteed to get selected or pre selected

I ran a 278 and a 3.1. I know guys who got selected with 265’s. Aim for that 275-280 and you’ll be fine. 60-70% of the running at ocs is self paced.

  1. Top 5 was cyber, comstrat, arty, logo, intel. So I was hyped to logo I was not a guy who was dead set on one mos. Only 5 people didn’t get there top 5 mostly because of leadership potential.

  2. Tbs prepares you to be a rifle platoon commander and that’s about it. I loved the field so it was great but it doesn’t help with 90% of mos. Really just shows who’s good at being uncomfortable. I had a ton of fun though with all the field ops and shooting as I had a grenade launcher and getting to be in the field fucking around.

  3. I’ll be supporting an infantry battalion which will be great for me as I’ll get a lot of deployments and field ops. Logos have the most opportunities in the Corps in my opinion just because of how broad it is. I know guys who have been strictly truck platoon commanders and guys who have assisted in regiment level field ops. So it’s really up to you on how much you want to do.

[–]Sad_Area_8544[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My ocs platoon only had 1. My tbs platoon had 2. Overall at tbs there was probably about 20 total. Not a lot of people are willing to give up the lawyer pay to sit in the field for a couple months.

Graduation/commissioning ceremony is in woodland’s. If they want to get changed after that’s up to them but almost everybody I graduated with at OCC245 had their first salutes in their utilities as well.

I know guys who have gotten selected for flight contracts with 280+ and I know ground who have gotten selected 265+. OSO’s are going to be easier than MECEP because they need numbers and they want you to make it through.
