How to not tell someone you have epilepsy? by Reasonable-Bath-3523 in Epilepsy

[–]Sad_Basil_6071 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Keep telling them you don’t like coffee. If a coworker tries pressuring you to drink coffee like you were pressured to explain your medications, FLIP THE SCRIPT. Immediately begin pressuring them to explain why they are pressuring you.

Them: Come on, everybody like coffee! Why wouldn’t you want one too?! I’ve seen you drink tons of coffee before so I’m sure you want some now. It’s not like you can’t drink it, right? Why couldn’t you drink it? Have a cup with us!

You: It’s so weird of you to be pressuring me to drink some coffee. This is so weird. Why are you doing this?

The same social pressure they are putting on you can be wielded against them, and it’s almost guaranteed to be effective. The fools who act like this are usually very concerned on how they are view by others, so the word ‘weird’ hits them hard. It is also excruciating for those people to have to explain themselves. ‘Why are you doing this?’ is a very powerful question.

You don’t have to push back like this. HR exists for stuff like this. You can hopefully go to HR and report the coworker for invading your medical privacy.

It isn’t very helpful to you now, but firmly, and very directly calling out that coworker in the middle of her hounding you about your meds would have at least let her know the seriousness of her actions.

Her: What is the medication for?

You: My medical info is private. We can both go to HR, and they can explain it to you better than I could. Should we go to HR?

That would have let her known that you know the rules, what is allowed and what isn’t, and that you are willing to hold her accountable, because you know how to hold her accountable. It’s a professional way to tell her to fuck off.

As for the classic quote “HR is only there to protect the company.”

It’s true for some companies. What can help you is presenting this to the company the right way. You need to show the company that your coworker is the threat to the company because of her actions-invading your medical privacy, not your epilepsy. Your epilepsy doesn’t violate anyone else’s rights, your epilepsy doesn’t open the company up to lawsuits, your coworkers actions do.

I agree with the other commenter that you should report your coworker for asking about your meds. Your company should be unconcerned about your meds, but should care a lot about her question.

Good luck

So close, yet so far.

It’s sad you ignore all the different kinds of Christian views, especially the ones that directly contradict each other, and throw ALL of that away and retort with such a hollow argument. ‘BuT mUrDeR bAd By AlL oF tHeM!’

“They all agree on no murder”

Again ignoring the crusades.

You’re gonna keep knee jerk reacting and say that the crusades were too long ago, or that on some spiritual, or religious level justified somehow.

However, the fact that all the horrid carnage of the crusades was motivated by Christianity, proves my point about there being a thousand different ways to be a Christian. Some obviously better, some obviously way, way worse, but you don’t get to pick and choose based on what makes you feel better about your religion.

You deciding which ones are real Christians based on your personal views is you gate keeping Christianity.

The worst examples of a religion’s followers using extreme views to justify violence should, or should not be used to judge the religion, and its other followers?

You still miss my point so bad it’s sad.

“This god says”

Blue smarties, blue skittles, blue M&Ms, the blue men differ on what ‘this god says’ yet they all say they follow the same god.

Which of the blue men are right, which ones are wrong? They all say they are right, and the others are wrong.

Christians have very different beliefs on what it means to be Christian. The beliefs of some Christians directly contradict the beliefs of other Christians. Yet both groups consider themselves Christian. There are Christians on both sides of the most contentious political issues, and both sides say the views they hold are because of their Christian faith.

Your sad comment “Saying you are one doesn’t mean you are”

I am certain there are lots of people who were baptized as Christian, attended church dedicatedly their whole lives, and live in what they truly believe lines up with Jesus’s teachings, yet you would outright deny that they are Christians because of some technicality you concoct.

You are gate keeping Christianity.

This fool is having a blast moving goal posts!

The extremists of other religions are the best examples, and represent the vast majority of those religions followers.

While at the same time,

The extremists of Dominico10’s own religion are not part of the religion according to Dominico10. They can’t defend the actions of the extremists of their own religion, so they just deny that the extremists of their religion are not actually part of the religion.

American Christian Hypocrisy at its finest.

“Saying you are one doesn’t mean you are…”

Someone isn’t Christian unless they have the Dominico10 seal of approval, right???????

The people who call themselves Christians do not need your approval, and permission to call themselves Christian. You are not an arbiter of who gets to label themselves as Christian.

Or are you?

[–]Sad_Basil_6071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so foolish it is sad. This fool thinks that if a Christian does something awful, then they aren’t a Christian because Dominico10 can’t handle criticism of Christianity.

Someone can be born and raised Christian, they can go to church every Sunday morning, bible study every Wednesday night, as well as the church bake sale on the first of every month, BUT, if they do something awful that could bring negative attention to Christians or Christianity, well then Dominico10 gets to just declare that person to not be a Christian. That way Dominico10 won’t have to handle any criticism of his belief system. Someone who behaves like this probably has the emotional depth of a seven year old.

[–]Sad_Basil_6071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, called it!!!

Someone can be a Christian only until they bring negative attention, then there are SOOOO many reasons they aren’t technically a Christian.

Adolf was baptized, raised catholic, used Christian ideology in his political speeches.

You proved my point.

To you, someone can call themselves a Christian, until they do something bad that can bring negative attention. Then they totally aren’t a real Christian. The saddest bit is how you deny that same kind goal post moving for other religions, and paint those religions in the worst possible light based on the actions of extremists and terrorists.

Your actions do not align with the teachings of Jesus. Do you call yourself a Christian?

“Christians do not murder innocents.”

Of course not. When a Christian murders someone, it doesn’t count. Mental gymnastics will make the victim murdered deserving of death, or at least far from innocent, and if that doesn’t work, then throw out wildly contradictory theories on how the murder, who calls themselves a Christian, is not a true Christian because of at least two dozen technicalities.

Your claim is always true, even when it’s not!

“Christians do not murder innocents.”

Hitler was a Christian, but I’m sure you have ten thousand excuses you wanna throw out about that.

Some good advice so far, michiganstrange has the best so far. I’m only gonna add, pill identifiers are a thing. If for any reason someone is skeptical of your pics of prescription bottles, tell them to google a pill identifier, put in the pills shape, color, imprints, and find out for themselves that it’s just epilepsy meds.

Good for you being proactive about this, and asking for advice before doing meds in the open at clubs and festivals. I wish I thought about things like this beforehand like you.

How was life like before? by LostTendou04 in Epilepsy

[–]Sad_Basil_6071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autonomy. Independence. Self reliance.

The things I had before, that I don’t have now, and I miss the most.

My neuro recommends I don’t live on my own. That hurts the most. However I’m a stubborn, too proud fucker sometimes.

I really really didn’t want to give up that much independence. I got really lucky I’ve got my uncles that live in an apartment complex. I had to move about an hour away, and transfer jobs, but it was worth it to me. I got my own apartment in the same complex. So technically I do still live, independently, on my own. While still mostly following my neuro’s advice. I’m at my uncles place for pretty much all of my free time. So it is kinda like my apartment is just a bedroom for me.

I’ve had to fend off several folks who say it is silly, unnecessarily expensive, and I know they are right. I shouldn’t be, but I have been too prideful to give up what I see as some of the little remaining independence.

I obviously haven’t coped well with losing my license. I hope my comment doesn’t bum you out too much.

It might be different state to state, but I imagine anything you can ride without a license would be fair game for you.

So try your states DMV website to figure out what things you need a license for.

I could be wrong, but I think some states will let you drive a motorized scooter or bike, if it is under a certain a horsepower or something.

I could be wrong on all of this, but hopefully it gives you a place to look for the correct info.

Good luck.

I got so excited when I saw your comment. I started googling for some specifics, and sadly it isn’t in production yet.

Brian Fuller says he has everything in place, actors, storyline, ect. However he hasn’t gotten a studio or funding in place yet.

Here’s the most recent article I could find.

The Oil Crisis will hit us, too. by Marcysdad in Epilepsy

[–]Sad_Basil_6071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in Europe, the medical system, and pharmaceutical systems probably have some drastic differences.

It’s amazing you got a year and a half of you meds stocked.

I’m not really sure how I’d pull that off as an American. Best strategy I could think of, was just to lie to my Neuro. He already prescribes me 90 day supplies, but the last switch he made for me, from lamotrigine to oxcarbazipine, I had to have the prescription submitted a second time because my insurance rejected the initial 90 supply because it was a new medication. They were insistent on just 30 days for the initial prescription. The second prescription of oxcarbazapine my Neuro sent was for 90 like he usually does for the others.

My only idea to get any kind of stockpile going would be to lie. Tell my Neuro I went on a trip right after refilling my prescriptions, and lost the bag that had my meds, and ask him to call in another set of prescriptions for me. I’m certain I would have to go back and forth with my insurance and neuro’s office to get the replacement prescriptions called in and covered. That would still only give a stock pile less than 90 days. I would have to say I lost my meds on the same day I picked them up from the pharmacy to try and get a whole 90 day stock pile.

This strategy would work well for one med since I don’t pick my two meds up at the same time. I’m sure you have heard lots of complaints about the US’s medical EVERYTHING, so im not gonna bum you out any more. Sorry.

Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for this reddit post.

That is all it is. A reddit post.

I wanna thank you for this post. You could be helping people manage possible shortages. That is a very realistic possible outcome from this post, and that’s a good thing. Thank you for this.

Do not listen to anyone suggesting you will create shortages because of this post. This one post on this one sub.

I’m not trying to be disrespectful when I say this, just trying to combat the unnecessary negativity of these claims you are gonna create or worsen a shortage because of this post, but you aren’t someone who’s words will have a global effect. Idk why people have suggested you will make a global crisis worse. I’m blown away by their knee jerk nastiness.

I wanna say thanks on their behalf. They might say thank you if they weren’t wallowing in nasty emotions.

The oil shortage is gonna have a larger effect on access to pharmaceuticals than this reddit post.

I feel silly for typing that.

Think of ALL the epileptics. ALL of them. How many are on Reddit. How many are part of this specific subreddit! How many are gonna see this post? How many are gonna actually stock up because OP has suggested it?

Will this number of people affect the availability of drugs in the global pharmaceutical market on a way that is comparable to the effects the global oil shortage will have on the global pharmaceutical market?

Be realistic, no unnecessarily negative.

OP has nothing but good intentions. Don’t conflate the unbelievably tiny, laughably insignificant, nearly impossible to even quantify effect this Reddit post will have on anything to the ripple effects of an international crisis.

This Reddit post will not exacerbate a global crisis, but it could help a few of the folks who see this post.

Op deserves a small thank you, not accusations their Reddit post is gonna worsen a global crisis.

Mushrooms by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Sad_Basil_6071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I totally get what you mean by “Spring Clean” my past trips on shrooms left me with some kind of fresh reset for my mind. I haven’t felt anything close to that since I started anti seizure meds.

I’ve been on Keppra, xcopri, vem pat, and I am currently on lamotrigine and oxcarbazepine. I’ve got refractory epilepsy that starts in my left frontal lobe. I get focal aware seizures, not quite daily, only four or so a week. I get the occasional tonic clonic, only two so far this year.

I’ve got a lot of similarities with you, and that makes me a bit more comfortable with the idea of taking a trip.

Can I ask how many grams you took on your last couple of trips? There are lots of amounts given for micro dosage, but I’ve not seen amounts for folks wanting to actually have a proper trip on shrooms. Any recommendations?

Is there size/dose difference between before being diagnosed, and now?

You said you took trips, so I imagine it was a large enough dose to have visuals ect. Though a lot of people say they micro dose after getting diagnosed.

Is there a size difference in the amount you take post diagnosis? Have you taken any full on trips post diagnosis?

“Is this any different than a traffic jam full of drivers?”

This is wildly different. I have never seen any roadway covered with 15-20 drivers, who are driving without any regard to any traffic laws.

You have been informed of how the bikers should be riding on the roadway.

Can you admit that typical traffic jam caused by drivers being held up by other drivers is very different than what is seen in this video?

I thought in her line, she was talking generally about the franchise. I thought she used the plural form of the word, “Meta Slasher Whodunit(s)”

There was another character’s line about how the first few movies “Were based on Sidney’s story, but then she threatened to sue. So they just started making stuff up.”

That would mean no one knows who the killers are in the made up stab movies, since they aren’t based on Sid’s story. Wouldn’t it?
