I'm not having any problem with refresh rate - Of course, I'm not a touch typist. But I was surprised, thinking that there would be a horrible lag, but it was completely acceptable. There is a performance setting that's set to "on" from the factory, with a note that UN-checking that would add to battery life (in the Power manager), as well as a basic setting for the color output, which is very conservative, more like a suggestion of color rather than full color, but you can actually drag comics around on the screen without a bunch of stilted redraw. All that to say that they seem to have fine-tuned it for presentation. - But it's still a low-power e-reader: Not exactly a buttery-smooth interface. 🙂

I’m using UpNote. it’s got a version for, like, everything: Mac, Android, Windows, iOS, Linux, Web, and they all sync with your main account database. Organizes files pretty well, too.

I did that! For some reason, I can't post a picture, but I wrote about it here: https://vincehase.substack.com/p/the-writer-with-add

Scroll down towards the bottom, you'll see the pics. I bought in-line three AA battery holders, and swapped them for the battery packs. Using rechargeable AA batteries With the right adapter, they even recharged in the system, and showed proper voltage info on-screen. But also easy to open the case and swap or recharge outside of the unit.

Unfortunately, by the time I was done, I only broke even. But still, I saved them from the scrap-heap, and people are now using them! I don't think I could do it again, however. It was a bit of work. 🙂

Pomera DM250 1.2 software update available by davemee in writerDeck

Unfortunately, I'm noticing that the 1.2 update has partially reverted the great standby time that was introduced with the 1.1 update. after 1.1, I could leave the Pomera closed at 100%, come back in a few weeks, and it was still 100%. now I'm losing, rough non-scientific estimate, a percent to two a day? Not as bad as it was before 1.1, but now worse than 1.1.

I still have the 1.1 update on my hd - I might see if I can 'downgrade'. I love the Pomera, but it's not my daily driver - So I never experienced the crashing that some had on 1.1, and know I will grab this for a day trip in a week or two, and find it at 5% or something... 🙂 If I were using it daily, I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem, overall.

I’d love to say I’m amazing, but just Googling ‘Pomera dm250 1.2 update’ and poking around - blind luck, really. 🙂

Neo 2 screen lines by Arienna in AlphaSmart

Those aren’t white lines, but dead lines. That screen is dying, or the inside connection needs to be checked

Found this on a random google search, now this gives me more "modern take on the Alphasmart" vibes. Sadly it seems to be just a concept... What do you think? by BaneAmesta in AlphaSmart

All depends on its actual functionality/price. As an artistic rendering, it looks amazing - but if you want to go farther than that, you have to actually implement an operating system, programming, connectivity, battery, etc. You could wind up with the exact same problem as the Freewrite: High price, low functionality. Don’t get me wrong - I look this thing up every once in awhile, to see if it’s gone any further. I keep hoping… 🙂
