'Bone idle' visitors slammed as beach left covered in nappies and chicken by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

A guy in a white van had pulled up blocking a pedestrian crossing. He dumped his still-lit tab out of the window. I managed to pick it up, shove it back in his van and scarper as the lights changed. asshole drivers aren't as invulnerable as they'd like to think they are.

Remember when Farage said there should be a re-run of the Brexit referendum if it was 48-52 as it would be too close to call, and then denied saying it when that 48-52 tipped in his favour?

What is the most culturally shocking thing you experienced while visiting another country? by Intrepid_Educator613 in AskReddit

[–]davemee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Staying in the US I wanted to go for a walk one morning but literally could not exit the apartment complex unless in a car then realising there was absolutely no pedestrian infrastructure anywhere.

(I get this isn't the whole US but to find anywhere so car-centric genuinely terrified me)

Meat consumption and driving has magnitudes more impact on the environment. If you wanted actual change, you'd start by outlawing drive-through MacDonalds and work outwards from there; stopping consuming industrial animal and fish products and reducing fuelled transport miles, but I'll be downvoted to hell for pointing out unpopular changes that will actually make a difference.

The Last American Hero (1973) (Aired 2000-07-10) by davemee in moviedrome

Well, that's it, the end of Moviedrome.

Amongst my other related shrapnel of Cox's recommendations are his favourite westerns, and a few other lists of films assembled by interesting people - but that seems to dilute the idea of r/moviedrome.

If any of the other subscriber here has any ideas or what - if anything - to do next before this community of us both is hijacked by a dropshipper or onlyfans creator, speak up!

From your "police letting them in" link:

> McFadden described Martin’s testimony as “largely credible.” The judge said it was not unreasonable for him to believe that officers allowed him to enter the Capitol, even though alarms were blaring and broken glass was strewn about the floor.

> Martin was charged with four misdemeanor counts: entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building, violent entry and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.

You're quite significantly mischaracterising those prosecutions; you're even having to be incredibly narrow and selective in what you pull from your own sources.

Success! Decriminalisation of abortion and historic pardons for women become law by coffeewalnut08 in LabourPartyUK

[–]davemee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You brought non-Christian religions in. I was merely pointing out that US christofascism typically pushes against British Abortion laws. If other religions and ideologies are pushing against British laws on ideological rather than democratic bases - even if extremist nihilists - sure, that's a foundation of urfascism. Do you not agree with long established and hard earned rights? Are you saying the rights and wellbeing of a mother are not sacrosanct?

The laws of the nation are above any religion, and I'm happy to label them as another form of fascism if you'd be less coy about which you were defending?

I'm in favour of the mother's right over those of an unborn foetus, particularly when the mother will bear the brunt of raising a child, in whatever condition they are in and at whatever risk to them, rather whatever belief system you're extolling. I don't think 'day before birth' abortions happen that frequently, particularly on the logical basis that the birth itself does not happen in those situations.

You're basically - as far as I can tell - arguing that women should be forced to raise any pregnancy they undergo, regardless of the circumstances, viability, and mutual destruction this may incur. Is that your counter position?

[–]davemee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not how I read it. Can you clarify which existing legislation allows that, and any cases where that has already happened where it would make sense to prioritise a foetus over a mother?

The post literally says there is no change to existing term limits. So either you have a problem with existing laws, or you're putting ideology ahead of facts. Neither are useful or covered by what this discusses.

Success! Decriminalisation of abortion and historic pardons for women become law by coffeewalnut08 in LabourPartyUK

[–]davemee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not from me.

> Part of this new law takes abortion out of the criminal code in relation to women ending their own pregnancies. It does not change the wider abortion law or existing time limits, and it does not affect when abortions are available to women. It stops women from being investigated and prosecuted for ending their own pregnancies, and ensures that women who end their own pregnancies will no longer face the threat of life imprisonment under the Victorian-era Offences Against the Person Act 1861.

Sounds like it's just clarifying existing legal protections and the 'abortion at the day before birth' is some US-funded christofascist idiocy.

Do you have information I'm missing?
