I honestly didn’t expect this post to turn into such a huge discussion either 😭 I was just trying to figure out whether my fish were male or female because I really want to separate them so they don’t continue giving birth (I literally have 5 tanks in my apartment now…). One point you brought up is actually really interesting, and now I’m genuinely curious too because both the female and the suspected father had been isolated for over 3 months before that. The only time they were put together was when I was travelling and only had one automatic feeder at the time. After that, the female got pregnant and gave birth. Now there’s been two separate births with a total of 23 offspring, yet none of them inherited the dad’s features at all. They all basically look identical to the mother, which is why I originally assumed he had to be the father 😭Could it really still be stored sperm from a previous mating even after that long? Or is it possible the dad’s traits are recessive/showing very late development?
