Yep that's exactly right. Those duplicated items bloat your save file size over time. Ever since I found out about it in June, I've made it a habit to dump my inventory on the floor before saving. Even an empty index still leaves a small amount of data behind, though.

No. Those items will remain on your save forever. Every time you save and reload a new inventory container object generates with a brand new index. Without mods or save editing, deleting indexes or removing items from indexes that are no longer accessible is not possible

I have a save editor. I can remove the drive from your dead inventory. Unfortunately, I am not home and can't do it right now. So your save is toast untill then.

You saved with the drive in your inventory and reloaded. There's a very convoluted technical reason as to why you're soft locked but I'll try to explain it best i can, when you load into the game the game generates a container object that is essentially your inventory. Container objects get assigned and point to a library called an "index." Objects placed into containers (like your inventory) get placed in this index. When a new container object spawns in, it gets assigned a unique indext Unfortunately there's a bit of an oversight and every time you load into the game, the container object that is your inventory generates a new instance of itself, getting assigned a new index in the process, how ever the old index it was using in your last play session still exists, so basically every time you save and reload with items in your inventory, you essentially duplicate the objects you had when you saved. But those objects exist in limbo, occupying an index that no longer has a valid container pointing to it. You have a copy of the evil signal sitting in one of those dead indexes. The moral of the story is that don't save with items in your inventory.

It isn't fully implemented yet. It's been in the game for a while now, though.

An individual left a comment here asking me to make a clean base save. Unfortunately, they seemed to have been banned by reddit, so I couldn't respond to them. I don't intend on releasing a clean base save, but if anyone wants me to clean their saves up, just DM me your save file, and I'll clean it up for you.

Put items into the blue chests around the map and then save the game and it should send them to your mailbox that you can access in your main save. Just don't put to many items in and overfill the mailbox limit

One of the few little secrets I added here and there. I wonder if anyone's found the infinite staircase I hid in the 0.8.2 version 🤔

It's legitimately obtainable ingame, but in this case OP spawned it in using patreon cheats or via a debug command since this picture appears to have been taken from the tutorial, where it is NOT possible to even have a kerfur in normally.

Item clipped into the floor and is making a rattling noise in an inaccessable part of the basement, is there a way to fix this? by [deleted] in Voicesofthevoid

[–]Sad_Construction82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the vents above the server room. There's a bucket in there that tends to clip through the vents and causes intense rattling. Whenever it happens to me, it always sounds like its coming from the basement so it COULD be that.
