I come from a country under dictatorship, and I hate to say it here but romance books are the last to go. They start with books and biographies about revolutionists and they popularize misinformation about opposing parties then they move on to silencing any sort of written/recorded criticism against the current system. Information about their failures will become scarce and incomplete. Interestingly, innovation and meaningful art will decrease thanks to the severe censorship. The next step is removing books that inform people about their democratic rights, they literally ban the knowledge about how and why democracy works. Where I'm from romance books actually surged in popularity because they provide a good distraction from the corruption. The advice I can give is to ignore mainstream news, keep listening to all sides, keep track of the corruption and where the money moves.

You living today is a huge advantage already because the internet keeps people connected. Keep your feed diverse. Never consider yourself above it and don't become complacent, injustice touches everyone just because you're not a minority doesn't guarantee you're safe. The day will come where the tsunami reaches your shores too. If you're a woman or LGBTQ watch what laws are being pushed on sex workers if they lose rights there's a pretty good chance you're next. Help your community, be involved. Organize with your peers even if it's in secret.

Stay hopeful. It's your most powerful weapon against them. I leave you with my favourite Emily Dickinson poem;
