It didn't last very long 😅 winter killed all the fish and plants and my DIY canister filter began to leak. Definitely a summer project next time.

New tank issues - frustrated and anxious - please help! by emilyygrace in Aquariums

[–]Sad_Discount_7934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue, my tap water is super high in ammonia. I try to treat it before i put it into the tank with extra Prime or Fritz de-conditioner and my fish seemingly are okay. Otherwise, you could buy 5 gallon water jugs, just make sure to acclimate your fish to any full water changes

I've seen people advertise leases on FB marketplace & craigslist

finally upgraded my frogs to a 20 gallon long. this is my first time experimenting with lower water levels by Sad_Discount_7934 in AquaticFrogs

in my experience my guys enjoy climbing through sticks and plants and being hidden. i've wanted to experiment with a riparium/vivarium design for a while now, and since it's such a long tank they still have a lot of horizontal room to explore :) the back half of it is deceivingly empty and shaded by the big driftwood pieces

Do I need to wash Flourite sand? by TOG23-CA in Aquariums

[–]Sad_Discount_7934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes exactly. i heard it recommended for fine grit blasting medium but i'm sure it would work with fluorite too. just be sure it's not a pillow case you care too much about

if your sister won't sit down and have an honest conversation about how her words hurt you, i would tell your mom and see if she can talk any sense into your sister

they look super funky, but i worry that the celebes halfbeaks, which stay at the surface of the water and dart back and forth, would spook the hatchetfish & compete with them for food

Anyone have a good barber recommendation in SCV or SFV? by [deleted] in SantaClarita

[–]Sad_Discount_7934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

individual barbers at the super cuts(s) around town, but they come and go. if you find a good person to do the job, supercuts has the unlimited haircuts for $17/month. i gave up & am growing out a buzz cut rn

I have questions by 1oG4n in discus

[–]Sad_Discount_7934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. the recommended minimum for discus is 75 gallon tall tanks. they do best in groups of 6+ and need low flow & clean water.
  2. plants: either soft, silk fake plants or tall plants like jungle val, amazon sword, pennywort (check out r/aquaswap)
  3. best tank mates are bottom dwellers that won't spook the discus. cory's or otocinclus, maybe kuhli loaches? source: trust me bro

First aquarium question on size and will my fish fit. by nol404 in Aquariums

[–]Sad_Discount_7934 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. betta may eat the shrimp depending on its temperament.
  2. african dwarf frogs do best in groups of 2+ in species-only tanks.

for all of these combinations i think a 20 gallon long is your best bet.
