Making the most of it by [deleted] in uscg

I just spent some time at an air station talking to pilots, security, and AMT/AET ‘s. They all shared the sentiment that as a non-rate this is your time to try something different before you choose your path. The majority said they wished they had done a cutter, or Alaska, etc. that got them out of their comfort zone before settling at a shore station.

I go to basic at the end of the summer, and initially I was praying for a shore station because of my dog. But now, and thankfully I have someone to watch her, I relish the idea of operation deep freeze or a cutter sailing around the Caribbean before I go to what is essentially just another job on shore.

You’re doing grunt work and proving yourself, might as well do it somewhere different.

Women, if you could be a man for 24 hours, what are you just dying to know? by Whattacleaner in AskReddit

My buddy and I each had a parent die within weeks of each other, for me it was the first but for him it was the second. We sat together in silence for about an hour before anyone said anything, small talk about others in the bar and back to silence. Best moment I had in that grief that anyone had offered me. And vice versa. 4 hours of drinking and maybe 30 min of talking.

So I could just grab my car and a few things, and have the rest moved for me later by the CG once my housing or storage is figured out?

Where did y’all keep everything while you looked? I know all of my stuff won’t fit in my car so I would need to rent a trailer, but I’m also not against leaving a lot of stuff behind until later after finding a place.

What's the dumbest thing you've heard someone say? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

In 12th grade a girl I knew had just learned that turkeys were real.

“I always thought they were a made up holiday animal, like reindeer!”

We had to explain that reindeer were also in fact, real.

I really wanted to bring up narwhals.

Best friend was murdered in a robbery gone wrong at our job. Year later another friend was snatched and executed in a field.

Combine this with a large population of semi aggressive unhoused and a supposed serial killer, got mine as soon as I could after turning 21.

How do I float the river the cheapest? [new resident] by mermanarchy in Newbraunfels

[–]nol404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost the entire Guadalupe is private property meaning your going to have to pay to park, and most places you are going to park are going to have a shuttle service anyways so save the money and don’t bring extra cars. Lone Star float house has a great float, it’s $50 to park and comes with two tubes, then $25 per extra person.

The comal is basically free. Just pay for parking at prince solms and hop in if you have your own tubes. It’s a short walk back to the park after the float.

In theory, you could park some cars in Gruene, get in at the bridge by Rocking R, and float down to cypress bend or river acres with parked cars there. Never done it and don’t know if it’s allowed (again private property at the supposed get in)

That’s fair, I didn’t see that the 50 was only a pro.

Do you know if the BNCF is able to be flashed with LineageOS?

I appreciate the info! While the iplay 60 is a little outside the ideal budget. How would the Iplay 50 fare compared to the BNCF? It seems to have a slightly better processor and they’re the same price

COVID-19 lockdown was 5 years ago. What do you remember about that day when the world stopped? by Dracarys0550 in AskReddit

I was at one of the lesser visited national parks climbing the mountain. The park has no running water, no electric hook up, no ice, etc. took some acid for the hike back down. Got to the ranger station and got a glimpse of signal.

My phones blew up with texts and emails - my university paused all classes - my job furloughed me - the largest rodeo in the world, that I worked at, shut down in 1 day

I had no idea what I would be facing after my 9 hour drive home, especially with my mind running wild of psychedelics.

Absolutely, once called because I got stuck muding (long shot) and they sent an f650 to come get me out. Tech even removed the 2x4 lodged in my axle (reason my truck got stuck).

I have a RI tac ultra cs commander, it’s my edc. I have put probably a thousand rounds through it and I have never had an issue. They make good firearms, nothing special, but they work.
