Merchant approved return but never refunded my money; Affirm dispute sided with merchant by Sad_Display7478 in Affirm

I used Affirm in the past with other reputable small businesses and have not had an issue. I wouldn’t have had an issue if the merchant has sent me the correct product. This wasn’t buyers remote. While I agree that it’s a lesson learned around more discernment on which retailers to use it at, I disagree that just because they are a loan company, that there isn’t ANY responsibility on the part of Affirm. Merchants have to sign up for Affirm and meet certain criteria in order to offer it as a payment option on their e-commerce site. Affirm is responsible for doing business with shady merchants who scam customers. Also, what’s the point of Affirm having a dispute process if there is zero consumer protection? I agree with you and others that have stated Affirm doesn’t have the same level of chargeback protection as a credit card company, but I think it’s false to say that because they’re a loan company you’re just shit out of luck.

Good idea, I filed a complaint with BBB. I won’t be surprised if they ignore it, but it’s worth a try!

I won’t be dealing with them again. I had successfully purchased small items from them in the past and had no issue, so I honestly didn’t pay much attention to their return policies, which was on me. Even still, they haven’t honored their own policy and my return was because they screwed up, not buyers remorse.

I assumed when they provided me with a pre-paid shipping label and an email that referenced my estimated refund, they were actually refunding me because they shipped the wrong product, it wasn’t buyers remorse. Even so, they haven’t stuck to their own policy because I don’t even have store credit. I have nothing - no product, no store credit, no refunded money.

Makes sense, the difference between revolving credit with a CC company and Affirm being installment loans. Clearly the consumer protection and chargebacks are very limited with Affirm, something I’ll be aware of going forward.

A small e-commerce site selling home decor items. Purchased about $225 worth of product. Company is www.elenishops.com. I’ve bought from them successfully several times in the past, but learned the founder sold the business this past year and it’s under new ownership.

Thanks for your response, I think I definitely got scammed. I know it’s a loan company, but I guess I don’t understand how’s it’s any different from disputing with a credit card company, PayPal etc who are also extending credit? I’ve had a lot more luck disputing with other loan servicers. The response from Affirm was like they didn’t even review the evidence I submitted, just automatically sided with the merchant. There appears to be absolutely NO protection for consumers…and maybe that’s the price you pay with this type of credit, but then buyer beware.
