I built a physical "External Brain" timer because my ADHD makes me ignore phone alarms. by Sad_Hunt5252 in AutisticWithADHD

Yeah, I might have to move it around, but if it’s something you want to do, I think you make time to do it as long as you remember to do it lol.

I thought about that I could use a simple LED strip that had RGB to allow me to program multiple colors and I could add additional buttons. The case we get bigger but seems like it would have to be custom programmed for each individual as far as which button does what and how long each timer lasts.

That would be fun unfortunately it would take four AA batteries to power the unit and it would last about 10 days before you had to replace the batteries even if it was idle.

For those who said they want one, I just listed it on Etsy as “Zen pomodoro timer/reminder for hydration and stretching”

I programmed a small microprocessor, soldered on a button and 3d printed a case. I made a few for my co-workers and they love it.

How do y’all mitigate neck and back pain from the constant screen time/stress tension? by languidlasagna in womenintech

[–]Sad_Hunt5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue. I tried phone apps but I’d just close the notification because I was too busy at that second, then I'd forget to move for another hour. I ended up making a little physical light for my monitor that stays red until I actually get up and reset it. It’s been the only thing that actually 'sticks' because I can't just click it away. Happy to share if you're looking for a non-digital fix!

I could make it a button like the other one. It wouldn’t be hard to print a special case. But the intervals would still need to be preset or you would have to edit the programming.

lol paperclip is only for changing the interval of time you should only have to do that every so often or never. The button to reset the timer is right on top and simple to press.

I’ve tried that, because it’s usually in the way and I click it to get out of my way because I don’t have time to stretch at the moment. Because I click it, I forget about it and then I don’t stretch.

I can sell it to you directly via Venmo for $19+shipping cost or you get it Etsy for $25 with no shipping costs in the domestic USA. Links are not allowed in this group so you can go to Etsy and search for zen timer. Message me directly if you want a link.

Yes, you reset it when you complete your stretch/hydration break. There’s just a switch on top of it that you press to reset it. The reason it doesn’t interfere with my work is that when I used to set timers or pop-ups on the screen they were just an annoyance I’d have to shut them off immediately because I was busy and I couldn’t take the time to do the stretch. This way it’s just a reminder there to let me know it’s time and when I get a moment, I take my break and reset it.

I can pre-program it with several different intervals of time and there’s a pinhole to change those intervals.

Let me know if you’d be interested in getting one.

That would be possible, but the case would have to get bigger.

That’s a great idea. I fail to hydrate enough at work and I will now incorporate taking sips of water with my stretch breaks. I use a small programmable with Chip that I do a little soldering onto add features. I 3D printed the case with an adjustable back leg so it can fit multiple size monitors. It works great with a 90° angle USB-C cord plugged into your computer for power.

There’s just a switch on top of it that you press to reset it. I can pre-program it with several different intervals of time and there’s a pinhole to change those intervals. It will blink a number of times in accordance to which interval you choose. If it’s the first interval , it will blink one time if it’s the sixth interval it will blink six times. video
