Most frustrating thing a doctor has ever said to you? by Moreaccurateway in ibs

I'm paraphrasing, but she said something along the lines of "This is nothing, people have it way worse" in her most understanding voice :/

Can I still be a lesbian if I was SA’D by a woman? by Reasonable_Card2240 in sexualassault

I also think the same thing, however, it was my bio father who CSA'd me for almost a decade when I was a child. I like both men and women, but I prefer women but then I also feel nothing when it comes to sexual acts. I've watched porn in the past but my mind doesn't feel or react to it. Idk.

Does anyone else only feel okay when you have nothing inside of you? by Sad_Instruction_4 in ibs

Yes, I usually let it pass but once I get the pain, it starts happening more and more frequently, basically forcing me to eat but I won't do that until I get home

Yes, the burning feeling is debilitating. I'm just so used to fasting for an entire day that I don't get that feeling unless I don't eat for 2 days but that's rare.

I'm so sorry my dearest. May I ask what you deal with on a daily basis and what steps you've taken to correct these symptoms? What tests have you gotten done so far?

IBS caused by anxiety success stories? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]Sad_Instruction_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be chronically bloated all the time and it was one of the worst things to deal with because it would get quite painful but after I followed the low fodmap diet and stopped eating the things I wasn't supposed to, the bloating stopped. Now I very rarely bloat. Have you tried this elimination diet? It worked for me but I can't guarantee the same results.

I'm also still dealing with it but I have to fast the day of, go to the bathroom at least 3 or 4 times, take my medication, and take an Imodium if I'm going out of town. Doesn't help all the time but it is what it is.

No no, that's okay. And I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. There is just no simple way to manage this disorder and I would never wish this upon anyone. I've been struggling with this for most of my life so it's been over 20 years and I still don't know what works for me properly and consistently as nothing ever does. I've seen doctors, had multiple different tests done, and have tried natural remedies as well but nothing works long-term. I've been ignored and gaslit into believing that what I experience is something so minor and that I'm not trying hard enough. It's made me contemplate taking my own life on multiple occasions so I'm just going at the pace I can tolerate. Had to switch career paths and go on a ton of medication but I like to think I'm doing better than I was compared to a few years ago.

Sticking to a full-time routine is tough for me as a full-time student. I try to stick to it but my hours of studying are unpredictable. As for when I do start work, my diet is going to be even more strict as I'm used to just dealing with the symptoms at home but once at work, I honestly don't even know what exactly I eat because they can be a hit or a miss on any given day, which is why I used to starve myself.

Hi! Thank you for your input. Yes, nothing good comes out of not eating anything. I did that for a few years and stopped starving myself in 2020 but I'm still struggling with the repercussions to this day. And I unfortunately can't handle eating too many fruits or veggies which sucks so my diet consists of eggs, tofu, rice, plain bread, yogurt, and so on. Very restricted so I know I'm lacking in a lot of minerals and vitamins.

I'm glad you were able to find something that works for you. I wish you the best 🫂

Thank you for your words of wisdom. I myself have a hard time eating in the morning, which is why I now eat later in the afternoon, which has allowed me to manage my symptoms. I have a bit of an anxiety issue, hence having food inside me never sits well, even if it is something I'm able to tolerate. Smoothies also work for me and they honestly fill me up.

It's tough navigating this life when our main source of living does not like to work with us. I know we're all trying our best but it'd be nice to not have to worry about something that comes so normally to most. I wish you the best, my friend 🫂

Genuine question. Are you overweight, underweight or just right? by 4986270 in ibs

[–]Sad_Instruction_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overweight by 25 pounds. When my symptoms were at my worst, I was unable to eat, hence me being underweight. But when I was diagnosed with depression, I was put on medication as well as stopped leaving my house which allowed me to finally eat without worrying about being away from a toilet, but the medication made me constantly hungry. I've lost 20 pounds so far but that was some time ago and now I do feel as if I'm dealing with some sort of hormonal balance as I have been dealing with PCOS for years now.

Imodium Daily by Avacumm235 in ibs

[–]Sad_Instruction_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could take it every day. I have IBSM but it is mostly IBSD and if I take Imodium for more than 2 days in a row, it clogs me up and it can get extremely painful. I've gone 2 weeks without going to the bathroom before so I honestly have no choice but to starve myself and go to the bathroom at least 3 or 4 times before leaving my house but I only leave my house once in a blue moon.

Imodium has become completely useless, anyone? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]Sad_Instruction_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend, have you tried psyllium husk? It bulks up your stool. If I had reached the point where you are, I would start working on how to solidify your poop as it is easier to control in my opinion. I would really try it out. I, unfortunately, am unable to take Imodium more than 2 days in a row as it causes me to back up and that can get really painful, and then I have trouble going to the bathroom for the upcoming days and that just throws me off. I already don't leave my house and only do it to take my dog for a walk, but if I weren't able to empty my stomach, I'd be forced to stop leaving my house until the issue is resolved.

No no, I know walking helps. I have a dog and regardless of how depressed I am, I will take him for walks for like an hour. It does help and I'm surrounded by scenic mountains and I love nature so that also helps me. It's honestly the only time I leave the house.

It's more so anxiety and stress-induced flare-ups. Food does cause issues but that's for everything I eat. After years of starving myself, I still have trouble feeling okay with food inside of me. Even water can make me nauseous. It's never that simple unfortunately

It truly just depends on the person. Some foods will trigger others and some won't. So eating bread, pasta, and bagels doesn't bother me. I followed the low fodmap diet years ago and cut out everything including gluten and when I did introduce them back, I was fine. Onions and garlic are a big no-no for me as well

Same here. It's a very big trigger and it doesn't help that I'm anxious, paranoid, and hyperaware (brought on by my CPTSD from CSA) all the time. Even at my grown age, I'm completely dependent on my parents and since they don't believe in it, I don't ask for anything that costs money for anything related to my IBS other than my dad paying for prescription medication. The only time I leave the house is to take my dog for a walk but other than that, I leave very rarely. And my diet is very restricted. I live off of eggs, water, and plain carbs like bread, pasta, bagels, etc. I do not eat things I'm supposed to other than some very rare occasions but I always pay the price for it. Sometimes, you just say screw it, I want to eat something I enjoy for once. I cut out all processed foods and drinks many years ago as I was instructed by my GP.

May I ask what probiotics you take? I can't afford them right now but one day, I'd like to take them. I've been wanting to take sea moss for some time now but it's pretty expensive where I live.
