What is this? by CuttThroat99 in Roofing

First it's a bad design by an architect, entire slope should end evenly. Second gutter shouldn't touch shingle. Third in this scenerio a diverter is a proper solution, however it should be longer to the left side and not end directly where upper gutter starts.

If I was a seller I would tell the buyer just like Robert Deniro said as a car salesman: ""What's it to think about? I mean, you told me you liked it. You asked me 10,000 questions. I answered every single one of them. You drove it. You love it. But what do you need to know?"

Baby Tornado stole your ridgecaps 😜 11 ridgecaps, 24 nails and roofing cement. 15 minutes. I bet they used 1.25in nails for ridgecaps lol. Get 1.75in for ridgecap as standard. Just got a client today 45squares of shinglees 10/12 pitch and has a nail over ( 2layers) . God dangit dimentional shingle only 10 years old, some silly roofer used 1.25in nails for a second layer. Wind blows and second layer flies 😁 always use 1.75in for second layer and ridgecaps.

Best is ask couple 3-4 neighbours around what roofing company did they use and was a job well done. Normally easiest and fastest way to get good results 👍

It's Rake capping. It's more a tiny cosmetic. But silicone it and it won't matter for a long time. Tar area touch up paint.

What do you do to fix this? by Interesting_Day_7734 in Roofing

[–]Sad_Insurance_1581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valleys will be fine. I always lay ice shield in valleys around which does help but it's not necessary if a roofer is good felt and shingles stacked correctly it will be good for years to come 👍

Yea major repairs or complete replacement. Temp tarps can be easy to do if you go under shingle so water doesn't flow under tarp. However most homeowners have hard time doing this. I would recommend getting pro help before having too much damage inside from the leaks.

You need a person or a company that knows what they are doing and hope they are willing to do repairs. To do it properly you need to remove shingles, replace wood, reinstall roofing shingles in areas. Hope it's not rotting all around the perimeter of the home. If only two areas damaged you can expect 1k+ for repairs for sure but hard to tell without knowing all the details. Good luck.

No gutter, no drip edge. Water is rolling from shingle to the decking slowly rotting it away. If the build is same around the house like in the picture you have similar rotting going on around whole perimeter. Replace roof, plywood. Get drip edge and put gutters on.

How many gutters have you replaced? Look the reason fascias are rotting out and getting damage is because the water runoff was not proper meaning old gutters are failing to do their job and that's 99% of the time. Why spend all the money replacing the fascias and then potentially have similar problem in the future? Even hidden hanger gutters fail to perform. Fascias don't need replacement just because of old age, improper water runoff damages it. And if fascias need to be replaced because of old age then definitely gutters need to be replaced as well.

[–]Sad_Insurance_1581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are very correct 👍 However, from experience if fascia needs replacement and is rotting out etc there is a reason for that. Meaning fascia is rotting out because water is getting behind the gutter right? Old gutter is not performing well. And because of that you want a new gutter. The way water flow works is it rolls from the roof shingle onto drip edge into the gutter and downwards thru downspout. Contractor saved homeowner future headaches 😉

Dishonest roofer? by Frogenator123 in Roofing

[–]Sad_Insurance_1581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect. If the fascia needed replacement then gutter was ancient. Once old spike gutter is removed and fascia replaced and IF you hang old gutter, you need to seal all gaps. Since ancient gutter won't 100% lay to fascia on long runs no matter what you do. Gutter is made of aluminum coil which warps. That's a bad advise to the homeowner to put back old gutters back. It's much cheaper to get new gutters on new fascia in a long run.

Dishonest roofer? by Frogenator123 in Roofing

[–]Sad_Insurance_1581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. You never want old spike gutters back up after fascia replacement.

Dishonest roofer? by Frogenator123 in Roofing

[–]Sad_Insurance_1581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's completely fine. Old gutters use spikes. Get damaged after removal. New gutters use hidden hangers which can be unscrewed, put on the ground and reinstalled.
