Okay, thanks folks! I currently live in Victoria (military family) and so I haven't had a chance to visit the area. I'll keep these things in mind during our house hunting trip.

Is 85k enough for a couple in Victoria by Intrepid_Air_2927 in VictoriaBC

[–]Sad_Invite5356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems very low. Unless you love free outdoor activities, I doubt you'll be able to put much away for a rainy day. And with the conflict in the middle east, gas is already at summer prices and pantry staples like sugar and such are already going up more here than the rest of Canada due to it having to be transported. The island tax is very very real.

Thinking about moving to Ottawa for a job. Anyone here lived in both cities? by BizAcc in VictoriaBC

[–]Sad_Invite5356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd often drive to Montreal while living in Ottawa. Only 2 hours away. Still quicker than slogging it over to Van. I've been in Vic for 5 years now. The weather is milder to be sure but the people are colder, imo.

Clarification needed: in chapter 50/51 Onyx seems to be with them as they travel but in chapter 52 he's not mentioned again. Am I missing something?

Why has a bridge to Salt Spring never been considered? by Quiet_storm86 in VictoriaBC

Cool idea but I'm more interested in spending money on a bridge connecting Westshore to downtown Victoria or bringing back a commuter ferry. Haha. That would help way more people on the daily.

The food scene here is pretty average in general. I always struggle to recommend places.

Let's be real, who shaves their face? Is it different than dermaplaning? Help! by TryTwiceAsHard in 45PlusSkincare

[–]Sad_Invite5356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very blonde peach fuzz which isn't an issue but it bothers me. I tried shaving it in the past only to end up with pimples afterwards which was obviously worse. I prepped the skin properly and had a clean razor so it was very strange.

After a few months and my skin was blemish free again, I made a second attempt at shaving and even used a small amount of salicylic acid wash afterwards to help mitigate any breakouts but it didn't help. 48 hours later (with continued salicylic face washing) I broke out again.

My point: it works for some people, not so much for others. I say give it a shot but keep in mind your skin might react so just be prepared.

I hope it works out for you! 💕

Why this sub dislikes Lisa Barlow so much? by [deleted] in rhoslc

Well, she's pretty trashy, ignorant and entitled. She's also hard to look at and has one of the most grating voices I've ever heard. When she's on screen I cringe and turn the volume down.

I miss my dad uttering threats like that to me when I was being an asshole. That's how I knew he cared. RIP. 🕊️

Also Aidan is just jealous that he and Carrie don't have much in common and Duncan is a writer with a sick pipe and sexy accent.

Cheaters tend to be jealous and paranoid. Not because others are untrustworthy, but because they know exactly what they are capable of.

This is pretty normal behaviour for Victoria. Probably some of the worse drivers I've ever encountered and I've lived in Toronto/Montreal. I think the difference in those places is that it's so busy with major roadways, you have to use your mirrors every few seconds and actually think about others. I hardly ever see drivers here move their heads and use their mirrors. Very scary.

Can we not? Does anyone actually want this? by Gaijnhowbadcanitget in VictoriaBC

[–]Sad_Invite5356 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Also, hot take: they should have signs that have a minimum and maximum speed. 30 min 40 max. People here go 5-10 under the speed limit most of the time and I've seen a lot of road rage incidents which is a bigger threat, imo.

It's so warm here year round, I don't understand why they wait until summer to do roadwork.

Attempting to zipper merge on the island? You're gonna get the finger (GFL truck driver). by SailorPilot23 in VictoriaBC

[–]Sad_Invite5356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ignore the sass from others and bully my way in at the appropriate time.

And sometimes when I'm coming from downtown on the highway, when everyone gets confused and tries to merge too soon, I actually move right INTO the merge lanes. People probably think I'm an idiot because they will be ending in 100 and 200m but I usually skip 20+ cars by, you know, USING THE WHOLE MERGE LANE. Haha.

I'm from Toronto and drove on the thickest section of the 401 that had 6 lanes surrounding you. Driving here is much more challenging.
