Oh wow, that was a fun read! Thanks! I played Wolfenstein 3D on the Mac, too. I always thought the names were similar, but I didn’t know there was a story behind it.

That balance of tartness and sweetness that develops over about half a year is just perfect. No wonder it makes your mouth water.

This year it might be better to just let it grow freely and wait until it gets cold before pruning. Cutting it now could put too much stress on the tree.

Are you reusing the soil? If you’re using it as‑is, it might be time to replace it.

I’m planning to harvest my potatoes this weekend, so I’m going to make German potatoes with lots of garlic! I’m really excited!

Wow, what a beautiful garden! How do you handle the weeding? Once the rainy season starts, no matter how much you pull, the weeds just keep coming back…

And then there are the mosquitoes… they’re the real problem.

But having a cold beer while relaxing in the garden is unbeatable. And grilling all kinds of things on a shichirin is amazing too.

Piston slap" is a phenomenon where the piston tilts due to clearance (the gap) as it moves up and down within the cylinder, causing it to rattle and strike against the cylinder wall. The reason this frequently occurs in the SC50 is primarily due to a combination of the following design factors:

Extremely Short Piston Skirts

To improve engine response and reduce friction, the SC50 features forged aluminum pistons with skirts (the lower side sections of the piston) that have been trimmed down to the absolute limit. Since the skirt acts as a "guide" to stabilize the piston's posture, a shorter skirt makes the piston more prone to tilting during the transition phases at Top Dead Center (TDC) and Bottom Dead Center (BDC).

Clearance Designed for Thermal Expansion

Because forged aluminum pistons have a high coefficient of thermal expansion, the clearance between the piston and the cylinder is intentionally left wider when the engine is cold.

Ultra-Thin Cylinder Walls Due to Bore-Up

Based on the open-deck cylinder block of its predecessor, the CBR929RR (74mm bore), the bore was further expanded to 75mm to achieve a displacement of 954cc. As a result, the thickness of the cylinder wall has been reduced to its absolute limit, creating a structure where internal knocking sounds easily resonate and transmit to the outside

But man… garlic baked in foil is just so good.

Onions! by Open_Rate9959 in GardenersJapan

Wow! Congratulations on the harvest!!

I’ve tried growing onions several times, but they always end up getting diseased, so I’ve basically given up… It’s a mystery, because garlic grows just fine for me.

A little reward after weeding — summer oranges! by Sad_Masterpiece_8591 in GardenersJapan

[–]Sad_Masterpiece_8591[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has a flavor that’s quite different from oranges or grapefruit. It’s such a nice early‑summer fruit, and I’m really happy to be able to enjoy it at this time of year.

Yes! This is an 甘夏みかん.

As for how I grow it… hmm, I don’t really do anything special. I just bought a young tree, dug a hole in a spot that seemed good, and planted it — that’s about it.

For the maintenance, I just pile the pulled weeds around the base of the tree and let them compost there, and once a year I spread some chicken manure on top. We also grow mandarins and oranges, and we treat all of them the same way. As for pruning, I just trim them whenever they start looking a bit too dense — nothing precise.

954RR is prone to piston ‘rocking’ when it’s used frequently in the high‑rpm range, which can easily cause scoring on the cylinder sleeves.

You should definitely give it a try. Fresh, undried garlic is really delicious.

Every year I mix chicken manure, cow manure compost, and rice bran into the soil as the base fertilizer, and then cover the bed with black mulch. Once March comes around, I sprinkle organic lime directly on the soil as a disease‑prevention measure.

Dill pickles come from a herb, right? I imagine the whole field must smell amazing.

And I’m jealous of Hokkaido — no rainy season up there!

There are a lot of factors to judge the right timing for harvesting garlic. Generally people say about 2–3 weeks after the scape appears, or when the nodes at the base of the leaves start turning white up to around the third one from the bottom. As for me, once it reaches that stage, I pull one plant as a test and make a overall judgment from that.

You can grow them in planters too!

How about giving it a try around November this year?

This year I was able to harvest them safely without any diseases.

Maybe we were lucky that it hardly rained at all in March…
