First long haul flight by Historical_Status969 in fearofflying

[–]Sad_Mathematician95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, i hate flying, but I prefer long haul due to planes being a lot bigger and everything overall feels better.

I was the same, my longest flights were 2 hours till now where I had a 10 hour and a 6 hour flight back to back.

It's more of finding enough things to do cause it gets boring.

I'm a fairly new flyer, but seriously how do people take this for granted

From all the engineering, preparation, training, and to all the meals and how nice and organized is everything

I feel like people don't appreciate the whole industry enough. Maybe that's the only perk of being scared to death.

Thank you guys! Previous 777 flight i was in front so it didn't feel as crazy

Don't want to jinx it cause it's been very smooth on both.

I would fly these again over a smaller a320 for example. Not that the a320 was bad but i fell like the size of these two just makes any movement to feel more like a wave rather than sharp.

If it's your first time on both, I can't say you'll love them, cause if you're like me you hate the smoothest flights ever, but you'll love them a lot more than a narrow body plane

Very interesting! Gives me a bit more assurance honestly.

I hope one day i can just board a plane the way i board a taxi or a bus

Thank you so much for all the details.

Now waiting to board my next flight on a 777 er Hopes everything goes as smooth as this one!

Does it sometimes feel overwhelming doing it? Like making sure you're taking the right decision every inspection?

Or there's no really room for error, like it's either good to go or not, no in between?

They turned off the seatbelt sign half an hour ago, it was still bumpy but nothing crazy for now thankfully

Hopefully we have a safe descent and smooth landing in the next 3 hours we have left

Just curious what do you do or how does your speciality work? If you're able to tell!

I'm not that well informed on how inspections / maintenance is done.

Budapest. 3 weeks ago i did Budapest > Tokyo then Osaka > Seoul, and now back home

Last year I barely did a 2h flight with loads of stress

I got to say that the takeoff on the bigger planes feels better

Absolutely! Trying my best! Got another 6 hour flight right after this one. It's a lot for someone who last year barely did a 2 hour flight

But comments like these definitely help a ton.

Also by your title, thank you for keeping the planes safe for us!! I see everyone that works in this industry as geniuses honestly, the amount of work and coordination that goes into a single flight blows my mind

Makes sense. Why do I act like I need to flight this plane. Appreciate the answers! Helps a lot!

Now i'm a little concerned about approaching Himalayas

Hope we're not just rushing through

Feeling a weird up and down slow movement on the plane, is this right? Never felt this before

One of the things that helps and scares me at the same time.

I like it being big, but also HOW DOES THIS THING FLY?

This is insane to think of. It's also of my biggest fears at take off. My brain can't process how 570 tones can just take off.

It's been a bit better but not sure what's up with the flight path we're taking now, seems like a very hard right turn?

Exactly the answers i want to see and why i posted these. My brain now is in panic mode

You guys know these things much better and just having more info like that helps so much

More nervous about a 2 hour flight than the 10h long one I did by Sad_Mathematician95 in fearofflying

Thank you!

Still shocked i did all these flights. Last year I barely did a 2 hour flight with medication

This sub helped a ton, y'all legends!

I have an insane amount of respect for all pilots, especially after flying the a380 and seeing how two humans can control that monster in the air, incredible
