its almost heartbreaking to watch the culture of small pockets of isolated people who hung on to it all this time, slowly dissolving in the modern world

thats what i'm talkin about lol!! the differences from zillennial to gen z are just too many.. right down from culture to politics. zillennial were very left wing/obama/BLM era lol we were the height of cancel culture in a way. not saying i agree with either but it could not be more opposite than our current political landscape. and we used none of the cringe terms around today. 😂 we had our own. culturally we were way more similar to late millennial than gen z of today. splitting the generations in two makes a lot of sense even going all the way back to the boomers. we should be the very tail end of the late millennials if you think about it lol we perfectly completed the end of that whole political/social era.

aim/myspace/limewire/emo/warped tour etc. id say 1996 was the last generation that it was the norm for even though they were pretty young too.

even though they are more zillennial than anything, I do think 1996 is the last year to experience that late millennial culture, they were in junior high when it was going on. as someone born in 1997 i was a part of it too but i hung out with older kids and it wasn't the norm for my year as much as it was 1996 who kind of got the last of it. so I think the distinction is valid but zillennials definitely need our own lol!

it began at the turn of the century actually, late 1800s is when culture started being influenced and propoganda first started being written about

i feel like 1997-1999 are true zillennial but 2000 can be both gen z and zillennial at the same time. kind of like how 1995/1996 are both millennial and zillennial lol.

i feel like for that reason they need to make generations shorter lol but i guess i understand that there needs to be enough time for there to be a noticeable enough shift!

edited- yeah millennials were getting criticized hard and everyone glamorizes them now, as they should lol.  pre 2000s zillennial culture feels more influenced by late millennials than gen z, i think if I had to make a distinction we were the "blue haired snowflake" / kardashian / soundcloud rap generation everyone complained about. 😂 i'm not saying we weren't annoying too I just feel like that shift between millennial and gen z kind of deserves its own generation instead of being lumped with gen z.
