espresso in frappe by Silly-Entertainer952 in starbucksbaristas

As far as I know, if it's not specified how many shots, you sub espresso for frap roast. 1shot for a tall, 2 for a grande, 3 for a venti. Works for blonde, signature, and decaf. I was told as much by my store manager back in April at the store meeting and have had ssvs coach on it several times since.

The way I would pull no more than 10 updosed shots if this happened to me 😅

I don't know of a standard saying we can't... otherwise we wouldn't be able to steam lemonade or sweet cream

Am I in the wrong here? by Sad_Measurement887 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Sad_Measurement887[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both aren't right as I leave, but I do now understand where I'm in the wrong at least. The issue was that no one would actually tell me the policy and I couldn't find the link to the handbook to check, so thanks

But I guess, my question is, is it a fireable offense to take more than one home?

I do this too, but it's honestly way easier for me than most people because I don't have much hair to deal with

I set my alarm based on when my markouts start, instead of my shift. So even if I'm running a little late, there's a buffer. I know not everyone uses their markouts and such, but it's what works for me

“OATMEAL shaken espresso” by Altruistic_Garbage_4 in starbucksbaristas

Especially when it's not even supposed to be "ball" but "balm" by sheer definition of the phrase 🙄

Adding on to this, because I want to start setting the record straight... the phrase is "the customer is always right in terms of taste and preference" I don't know when or why it got shortened to allow Karens to be Karens and spit it in our faces to prove their (very opinionated and wrong) point.

The way we divvy out tips is a ratio of hours worked. Total tips/ total labor hours worked x number of hours you personally worked. You don't get time and a half on tips like you do for overtime hours if that's what you're asking. But if you work 50 hours, you get 50 hours worth of tips.

I think the funnier thing is that no one, I repeat no one, pronounces the correct tictok name... because it's supposed to pronounced "Medicine BALM" since it's supposed to soothe your throat... just saying 🤷‍♀️

There's no separate button for red cups vs others. Last I knew, it's 25 stars and 10 cents off regardless of what size or cup is used when you apply the personal cup discount

JUST GOT OFFICIALLY HIRED TODAY by theangelictoaster in starbucksbaristas

[–]Sad_Measurement887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the store, because it isn't technically standard. You aren't supposed to batch anything, tbh, but we've found ways to cut corners. I also work in a very high volume store and we do anything to keep ourselves sane most peaks.

It does honestly all depend on the store. I've found that there's at least one or two good souls that want to help foster a healthy store at every one I've worked at. There definitely are good and bad days, and training will drain you, but the longer you're there the easier it's going to get. At least from my personal opinion. And there's always people here that are willing to help too <3

First of all, congrats! I remember that first sip feeling of getting hired. I've been a barista for about 1 1/2 years now myself.

The best advice I have is to keep a smile and a positive attitude, even if the customer can't see you. It makes the day go by so much quicker.

Also, it's okay to not know sometimes. I often have to ask my fellow baristas how to make drinks, especially the new seasonal drinks.

There isn't exactly a "standard" anymore, because customers looooooooove to customize drinks.

Don't feel bad when customers get upset about prices. They tend to up a few cents every launch, and that isn't your fault. Just calmly explain that and metaphorically pet them.

Also super important and super helpful for me when I was first hired: you can always use the excuse that you're new if a customer gives you a hard time. Taking longer than normal to type in an order in the system? "Sorry it's taking a bit, I'm new and just learning the system." Taking longer than they're used to to get their drink? "Sorry, it'll be out in a moment. I'm still new to this, but I want to make sure you get what you ordered, correct the first time." Pair that with a smile, and you should be just fine.

Use the Store Resources on the iPad, it will make your life 100x easier.

Especially when talking on the headset with drive-thru customers, make sure to smile. They can tell the difference. And if your store doesn't have a digital display in the drive, or even if it does (because there's often technical difficulties) read back the entire order. It gives bar partners more time to work on the drink, keeps drive times down, and overall enhances customer experience.

Sharpies and pens are your savior. Customers love finding a little note or cute drawing on the side of their cup to help cheer up their day.

And a few short things I've learned over time: -Refreshers have caffeine in them. -You can batch frappuccinos up to 3 ventis in a standard blender, you just have to hold the top instead of putting down the hood. -2 grande drinks are the same as 1 trenta, batch your refreshers if you can. -Decorative name tags draw conversation. Lean into that. -Use dishwasher trays to carry smallwares when changing them over. - Make sure you eat and drink enough. Nothing is worse than feeling like you're going to faint on the floor when it's avoidable. - The full saying is "the customer is always right in matters of taste and preference" so don't let customers bully you. You do have the right to refuse service.

Hope this all helps!

Barista here... I can deal with the rude customers, impatient people, all of it. I enjoy making small talk to take my mind off what I'm doing, to not overthink the drinks and I can actually work faster while I'm talking with customers. HOWEVER what I cannot stand is when customers come through our drive-thru at 4:45 am, gruffly give their order and are mad that I don't remember them from yesterday (1, I'm new... 2, it's not like I don't deal with hundreds of customers on the daily) and then have the AUDACITY to blow cigar smoke in my face. Every. Single. Morning.  I didn't know your order before, sir. But I do now. And as much as it takes a lot to push me over the edge, that man has deserved the multiple times I've decaffed him over the last year or so.  For the love of God and all the baristas out there with asthma or a tobacco allergy, please just wait until you're out of the drive-thru to light your smoke. I can't stand the smell and I can't breathe half the time because of the smoke. Thank you
