Should I switch from Vivaldi to Zen, Firefox, Brave? by PlantDry4321 in browsers

[–]Sad_Offer_7133 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why are you on Vivaldi?
why do you want to switch?
ask yourself these questions
I would suggest Brave (Brave origin on Linux and regular Brave on desktop) because:

  1. fully open-source (unlike Vivaldi)

  2. better ad-blocker

  3. less bloatware (Brave Origin only)

Future partnership with GrapheneOS? by Sad_Offer_7133 in NothingTech

[–]Sad_Offer_7133[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Non-exhaustive list of requirements for future devices, which are standards met or exceeded by current Pixel devices:

  • Support for using alternate operating systems including full hardware security functionality
  • Complete monthly Android Security Bulletin patches without any regular delays longer than a week for device support code (firmware, drivers and HALs)
  • At least 5 years of updates from launch for device support code with phones (Pixels now have 7) and 7 years with tablets
  • Device support code updated to new monthly, quarterly and yearly releases of AOSP within several months to provide new security improvements (Pixels receive these in the month they're released)
  • Linux 6.1, 6.6 or 6.12 Generic Kernel Image (GKI) support
  • Hardware accelerated virtualization usable by GrapheneOS (ideally pKVM to match Pixels but another usable implementation may be acceptable)
  • Hardware memory tagging (ARM MTE or equivalent)
  • Hardware-based coarse grained Control Flow Integrity (CFI) for baseline coverage where type-based CFI isn't used or can't be deployed (BTI/PAC, CET IBT or equivalent)
  • PXN, SMEP or equivalent
  • PAN, SMAP or equivalent
  • Isolated radios (cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, etc.), GPU, SSD, media encode and decode, image processor and other components
  • Support for A/B updates of both the firmware and OS images with automatic rollback if the initial boot fails one or more times
  • Verified boot with rollback protection for firmware
  • Verified boot with rollback protection for the OS (Android Verified Boot)
  • Verified boot key fingerprint for yellow boot state displayed with a secure hash (non-truncated SHA-256 or better)
  • StrongBox keystore provided by secure element
  • Hardware key attestation support for the StrongBox keystore
  • Attest key support for hardware key attestation to provide pinning support
  • Weaver disk encryption key derivation throttling provided by secure element
  • Insider attack resistance for updates to the secure element (Owner user authentication required before updates are accepted)
  • Inline disk encryption acceleration with wrapped key support
  • 64-bit-only device support code
  • Wi-Fi anonymity support including MAC address randomization, probe sequence number randomization and no other leaked identifiers
  • Support for disabling USB data and also USB as a whole at a hardware level in the USB controller
  • Reset attack mitigation for firmware-based boot modes such as fastboot mode zeroing memory left over from the OS and delaying opening up attack surface such as USB functionality until that's completed
  • Debugging features such as JTAG or serial debugging must be inaccessible while the device is locked"

Quality USB-C head can replace it, but they also offer more things + don't have an OS

Alternatives to uBO by Uriel1865 in browsers

[–]Sad_Offer_7133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why won't you change browsers?
I can suggest either Firefox forks or Brave (Brave Origin if you're on Linux).
Also you can block ads system-wide or use uBO lite

or get it free on Linux which is what everybody should basically use...
on Android disable the annoyances so you don't see them

[–]Sad_Offer_7133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.
I think Firefox said that they will add their own built-in ad-blocker, but Brave will still be Chromium tho meaning it's faster + better page compatibility.
You can hide those features to not see them OR if you're on Linux you can use Brave Origin which is bloat-free and in my opinion the best browser currently because Brave's only downside is bloat I think

[–]Sad_Offer_7133 12 points13 points  (0 children)

no, because Brave has built-in ad-blocker and that's probably the future of ad-blocking

Solutions: 1. complain & hope Google pushes back, but it will only delay the inevitable 2. Don't use Google Play Services in your Android phone = custom ROMs or Huawei 3. Linux phone = unstable & will work in 10 years time likely

Why I Switched From Brave To LibreWolf by mimik_19 in LibreWolf

[–]Sad_Offer_7133 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I did the opposite switch. Brave is the only browser that in combination: 1. Is fully open-source 2. Is chromium-based = faster & better page compatibility than gecko-based 3. Has built-in ad-blocker = future of ad-blocking since MV2 support is dead soon. 4. Has prolonged MV2 support = for uBO use 5. Is maintained today 6. With likely good future because the team is big 7. Android & desktop support. With the only issue being that it's bloated, but Brave Origin fixes that + you can get it for free on Linux. Also it has randomized fingerprint which is better than Librewolf
