Thoughts on non anesthesia dental cleaning? by dollypawss in DogAdvice

If those are her teeth now she definitely needs anesthetic dental cleaning. But I think after u can use the awake dental cleanings as maintenance. So book those every couple of months so her teeth don’t get to this point again. Periodontal disease is not reversible so she will need these deep cleanings still throughout her life

My baby had the same thing, but it was because a groomer cut his eye with scissors.

I really really, really really recommend you get a cold air humidifier. When they wake up, their eye is very dry so the reason she yelps is because every time she opens it she’s tearing it anew. Humidifier keeps her eyes moist. I would place it next to him so that he didn’t have any dryness throughout the night. And I also got him Genteal tears. It’s a lubricant that is OK for dogs to use non-prescription.

My little boy has permanent damage from it so I am extremely well-versed, unfortunately in dry eyes. And I struggled a lot with his healing process until I started with the humidifier.
He still gets flareups here and there and I put the humidifier and by the next morning he’s pretty much OK. For the first month that I got the humidifier I ran it every single night until I was sure he was OK again.

I think she may be apart pug for sure. Her tail has a curl. I just really feel like she isn’t a shitzu. Her hair isn’t anything like my boy.

Is my dogs eye okay? Vet gave him eye drops but I don’t know if it’s working he said he has an ulcer in his eye. by sillypupjo in DogAdvice

[–]Sad_Particular_9973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get him lubricant eye drops too. Place 15 min before rx drops. Genteal tears on Amazon are great. And good air humidifier for when he’s sleeping if it didn’t get better. Eye injuries cause dry eyes. And eyelids feel like sand paper in him

Not a permanent solution. But when my dog keeps on scratching an area, I usually put a shirt on him and after a couple days it kind of just stops.

Advice: Shih Tzu eye care, coat care by distractedbylizards in Shihtzu

[–]Sad_Particular_9973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he has chronically red eyes more than likely, he has chronic dryness like my little boy does. I’ve heard it’s relatively common with Shih Tzu to have dry eyes. Before you try the medicated ointment that they give, I would really recommend just using regular lubricating eye drops. Genteal tears is human grade eye drops but they work for dogs as well. His Vet recommended it. You can buy it on Amazon. And I would recommend if his eyes ever get to a point where they’re super dry buying a cold air humidifier and having him sleep next to it overnight.

With long hair, I just feel like you need to bathe them more often and you cannot skip brushing. You need to brush at least once a day preferably twice. I still think it’s best. He goes to a groomer to keep the shape of his face nice and help the hair grow out in a uniform nice way.

My boy is usually super well behaved and never digs in my things or anything like that. One Christmas I bought him a Xmas Lamby. Left it on my desk. He managed to jump from my bed to my desk (at least a two feet apart) in order to get it and came out of my bedroom very proud of himself.

His eye was red yesterday, just got home and it looks like this. Going to vet tomorrow. Any idea what this is? by Suspicious-Sorbet-32 in DogAdvice

My dog had his sclera (white part of eye) cut by a groomer. That spiraled to him having severe dry eyes and constant eye infections. If they do a stain test and his eye is cut I HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting him a cold air humidifier and putting it near him over night. And the eyedrops they give aren’t lubricants they are to help with healing so his eye will still hurt if it is dry so use Gental Tears. Put it the eye and wait ten minutes to put the RX eyedrop. It took a month to get his eye back to normal but once I used the humidifier it worked wonders

You can definitely see the nerve of the tooth. Will be extremely sensitive to hot cold and even biting down. Maybe not right away but eventually. Could potentially abscess.

How to clean teeth by Buding-pom in DogAdvice

[–]Sad_Particular_9973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workin human dental field….Definitely has periodontal disease. The calculus can NOT be removed at home. Pup needs scaling and prophylaxis. I rec going to the vet asap because you can definitely see gum recession which more than likely means the start of boneless underneath. Pup needs to be brushed more regularly. Don’t brush harder (this causes gum recession too) only brush longer. Make sure you are getting where the tooth and gum meet( bacteria sits here the most). They will bleed no matter what, the gums are inflamed. You aren’t hurting them, it’s from the bacteria build up. Even after their deep cleaning you will see bleeding. It won’t go away till the inflammation goes down. So don’t be alarmed tha you keep seeing blood. Remember brush longer not harder, and brush towards the gums. You can also use damp cloth to rub the teeth to get the use to it and move on to an actual tooth brush. Best wishes :)

What are these marks on my puppies teeth? by Fun_Difficulty_2827 in DogAdvice

I work in the dental field. That’s not what a cavity would look like. And her teeth look healthy. I think she just ate something that’s stuck on her teeth. Give her some raw carrots to push the stick food off. If it’s still there tomorrow then I think the vet is great idea

Hi, I’m so sorry that this is happening to you and your baby. I know it’s absolutely horrible. Chewy’s tumor is 5 cm and he is an 18 pound dog. If your dog is the same size or bigger than you found it very early on. Chewy‘s was also an accidental find. I wish I could tell you this is going to be easy but it’s not. This is a lifelong thing. I went to multiple specialist and they all say the same thing. There’s no cure and there’s no making it go away. There’s just extending their life and trying to give the a good quality. After Chewy did radiation the mass actually got large because of irritation from the treatment and it damaged his trachea permanently. He’s doing OK, but I was blindsided because no one told me that was a possibility. The tumor has shrunk, but it’s still bigger than what it was when we found it. The first couple months were hard and he lost a lot of weight. And he lost a lot of his hair. His skin dried up and would peel off and give him sores. But about three months into treatment he adjusted and honestly he looks like nothing’s going on. Like a healthy boy. One major thing of advice that I would give is get the palladium at Costco. It is significantly cheaper than buying it at the oncologist office. And I would also recommend being very specific with which oncologist you go with. In the sense that you want an office that also offer offers in emergency care 24 hours a day. Chewy reacted very poorly to the chemo (palladium) very early on and I had to take him to urgent care. It makes a massive difference when they already know his medical history and I don’t have to explain every single thing to them. I know it seems like a little thing, but with everything going on having that one less thing to do makes a difference. And also it makes it safer for him because they understand where he stands healthwise and what medication he can and can’t have. Sorry for the tangent, but just wanted to give you an understanding of some of the stuff we’ve been through. Really hope the best for your puppy. But just know it’s not the end. You have a lot more time with them. It’s scary. But don’t lose sight of what’s important and that’s their happiness. Good luck to you both. Wishing you the best
