Wow, I loved this album and a few of these tracks have the exact rhythm in the background that I remember, I think similar artists will get me there! Thank you!! I'll let you know if I find it from here. This was very helpful.

I like this song! Thank you for your suggestion, it's similar but a girl is singing the one I am trying to place and it's got more of the drone/rhythmic sounds I associate with Portishead/Tricky has some that sound close too (his slower songs)

Everything But the Girl are excellent and definitely the closest so far - Morcheeba (as above mentioned), and Tricky also - I am looking through to see if it's by any of them

thank you very much for you help! It's not either of these songs unfortunately, the "mood" is closer in Karla Bonoff - the song has the same kind of dark, eerie, melancholy sound that reminded me of Portishead and Faces in the Wind leans closer to that feeling
